“Are you saying Santa Claus has been kidnapped?” That’s the sound of Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson teaming up for Amazon’s Red One – and a new trailer gives us a first look at the festive action comedy.
The film follows the North Pole’s Head of Security (Dwayne Johnson) who must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Chris Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission. Their target? Santa – code name Red One – who has been abducted. Can they save Christmas, even with Evans’ bounty hunter on the Level 4 Naughty List?
The film is based on an original story by Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions and is directed by Jake Kasdan, who previously helmed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It is penned by Chris Morgan, whose CV includes the Fast & Furious franchise.
The film was set for a release in time for Christmas 2023, but was pushed back to Christmas 2024 following the writers strike. Now, Amazon has announced that it will land in cinemas on 15th November, which means a Prime Video rollout worldwide is likely on the cards a month later, ready for the holidays.
Here’s the trailer:
Chris Evans joins Dwayne Johnson in Amazon’s Red One
25th January 2022
Chris Evans will star alongside Dwayne Johnson in Red One.
The Christmas film, which was first announced last summer, is based on an original story by Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions. A globe-trotting action-adventure comedy, it aims to kickstart a new universe to explore within the increasingly prolific and profitable Christmas movie genre.
It will be directed by Jake Kasdan, who previously directed Johnson in Jumanji (another Seven Brucs production) and will be written by Chris Morgan, whose CV includes the Fast & Furious franchise – and Johnson-starring spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw.
Johnson, who has just starred in Netflix’s Red Notice, is on board as producer as well as star, with Hiram and Dany Garcia producing alongside Kasdan, Morgan, Melvin Mar and co-producer Sky Salem Robinson.
The project will film this year, which means you can expect it in time for Christmas 2023. In the meantime, Evans, like Johnson, is no stranger to streaming, having appeared in Apple TV+ series Defending Jacob, and will soon be seen in Apple TV+’s Ghosted.
