A reboot of animated series Chip ‘n’ Dale is in the works at Disney+.
The House of Mouse’s subscription service is expected to launch later this year, and its wasted no time in lining up big name franchises to woo subscribers, from Star Wars and Marvel series to a TV spin-off from Monsters, Inc.. But Pixar animations aren’t the only ones being mined for ideas, with Disney also delving into its archive to revive its chipmunk-centric classic.
The reboot was announced at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival this week, reports Deadline. Starring the world’s most famous chipmunk duo, the series is being developed by Disney’s London-based animation team in collaboration with Paris-based Xilam Animation – the award-winning independent studio behind Paprika and Mr. Magoo.
It will combine a traditional style of animation with contemporary narratives and comprise 39 seven-minute episodes. The non-verbal comedy will follow the ups and downs of the two creatures living life in the big city. It will be directed by Jean Cayrol and produced by Marc du Pontavice.
Production is now underway. You can see the first-look image above.
