In Greendale, the Holidays can be such a witch. Luckily, we’ve got Sabrina Spellman to hang with this festive season, as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina returns for a Christmas special.
Séances, evil Santas, spellcasting, you’ll find it all in CAOS’ stockings this December, as A Midwinter’s Tale follows the Church of Night’s annual celebration of the Winter Soltice, a time when families gather around the Yule Fire to tell ghost stories and sing pagan carols. 30th November 2018
Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is returning for a Christmas special this winter, and it’s recruiting a veteran of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to do it.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale will follow the Church of Night’s annual celebration of the Winter Soltice, a time when families gather around the Yule Fire to tell ghost stories and sing pagan carols. In the words of Aunt Hilda (Lucy Davis) to Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka), they’re “going to hunker down and watch our favourite Christmas movies”.
But the holidays are also a time for guests and visitors – both welcome and unwelcome – you never know what might come down the chimney… Specifically, Alexis Denisof, best known as Wesley Wyndam-Pryce (both on Buffy and Angel), who leads a wave of new casting additions for the special.
Denisof plays Mary Wardwell’s boyfriend, Adam Masters. Handsome and charming, Adam returns to Greendale after a stint overseas working with Physicians Without Frontiers—unaware that his fiancé has been taken over by the demoness Madam Satan.
Jedidiah Goodacre (The Originals) has also been cast as warlock Dorian Gray. The owner of Dorian’s Gray Room, an exclusive nightclub, this enigmatic gentleman of an indeterminate age is very good at keeping secrets, especially his own—a cursed portrait he hides from prying eyes.
They are joined by Mckenna Grace (Captain Marvel, Annabelle 3) as Li’l Sabrina, During our holiday special, we’ll get to see what Sabrina was like as a precocious tot. And while The Church of Night celebrates the Solstice, that doesn’t stop Li’l Sabrina from asking Santa for something special.
The festive outing arrives on Netflix on Friday 14th December. It joins a number of festive outings for Netflix originals, including a festive edition of baking contest Nailed It! (7th December) and Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas (also on 7th December).
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will return for a Christmas special

What’s the one thing more Christmassy than snow, presents or turkey? Horror stories. So it’s only right that as the weather takes a turn for the chilling, and December looms on the dark horizon, Sabrina the Teenage Witch is planning to fly in for a seasonal visit.
Yes, Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is returning for a festival special. Called Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale, the bonus hell-iday outing will centre on the Church of Night’s annual celebration of the Winter Soltice, a time when families gather around the Yule Fire to tell ghost stories and sing pagan carols. The special episode follows a 10-episode first season, which receive a rave review from us.
“Sabrina Spellman is all set to take up Buffy’s mantle as TV’s new kick-ass, pop-feminist horror icon,” we wrote. “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, like Harry Potter – is a coming-of-age saga with a rich and well-written mythology. Like those titles, too, Aguirre-Sacasa’s latest show values friendship as the lynchpin of survival in a hostile and constantly threatening world. Funny, dark, politically-charged, weird, subversive, spooky, occasionally violent and always compelling, this reboot is another big winner for Netflix.”
It joins a number of festive outings for Netflix originals, including a festive edition of baking contest Nailed It! (7th December) and Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas (also on 7th December). Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale will magic its way onto Netflix on 14th December.
