“If escaping were easy, I would be long gone.” That’s the sound of Agatha Christie heading to Spain for Netflix’s dark new comedy Someone Has to Die.
From the creator of The House of Flowers, Manolo Caro, the thriller begins when a young man, after being called by his parents, must return from Mexico to his home to meet his fiancée, but the people are surprised when he returns accompanied by Lazaro, a mysterious ballet dancer. Everything unfolds in 1950s Spain, a conservative and traditional time when appearances and family ties were key.
And as the title suggests, things aren’t going to go well. See what happens on Friday 16th October, when the series premieres on Netflix.
Someone Has to Die is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.

Spanish screen legend Carmen Maura will star in Someone Has to Die, a new series for Netflix.
Alguien tiene que morir, as it’s called in its original language, is a three-episode dark comedy.
The story begins when a young man, after being called by his parents, must return from Mexico to his home to meet his fiancée, but the people are surprised when he returns accompanied by Lazaro, a mysterious ballet dancer. Everything unfolds in 1950s Spain, a conservative and traditional time when appearances and family ties were key.
Winner of four Goya Awards, Maura (La Comunidad, Volver, Gente que viene y bah) will lead the cast, alongside Cecilia Suárez (La casa de las flores, Perfectos desconocidos), Ernesto Alterio (El otro lado de la cama, Narcos: Mexico, Las chicas del cable), Alejandro Speitzer (La reina del Sur) and award-winning dancer Isaac Hernández (El Rey de todo el mundo). The cast is completed by Ester Expósito (ÉLITE, Tu hijo), Pilar Castro (Gordos, Es por tu bien), Mariola Fuentes (Arde Madrid, Instinto), Eduardo Casanova (La casa de las flores, Señor dame paciencia), Manuel Morón (Malaka), Juan Carlos Vellido (Las chicas del cable) and Carlos Cuevas (Merlí).
Manolo Caro is the creator and director of the series. He co-writes with Fernando Pérez and Monika Revilla. It is produced by Rafael Ley, María José Córdova, Carlos Taibo and Caro.
“Alguien tiene que morir is a wonderful challenge, my first project in Spain and the first outside comedy, which I was very nervous about. Having this cast is a dream came true and makes everything easier. I was very excited to start and now it’s a reality,” says Caro.
