BT will show the first episode of Fear the Walking for free on Freeview.
The spin-off from The Walking Dead premiered in the US on Sunday 23rd August, attracting a whopping 10.1 million viewers – the biggest premiere in cable TV history.
AMC will be hoping for the same reception in the UK when the show debuts on Monday 31st August on its own AMC UK channel.
AMC from BT will launch on Friday 28th August and will be exclusive to BT customers, but the telecoms giant is also aiming for a big splash, announcing that the first episode of the series will be made available free of charge to all audiences on Freeview’s BT Showcase Channel (channel 59) as well as on Sky’s AMC from BT on channel 192. BT TV customers do not need to take any action to receive the channel – it will automatically be added on channel 381 (HD) and 332 (SD).
In addition to the new zombie series, which is set in Los Angeles at the time of the virus outbreak, AMC from BT will also feature the exclusive UK television premieres of films such as Only God Forgives starring Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott Thomas (29th August at 11:00pm), The Beaver (15th September at 7:00pm) and Shelter (17th September at 11:00 pm). Two of the most acclaimed original AMC series, Breaking Bad and Mad Men, will also be seen on the channel in the UK as part of agreements with Sony Pictures Television and Lionsgate respectively, alongside popular movies and series from both distributors. All seven seasons of Mad Men will debut starting 30th August at 9:00pm with a special double-bill and a new episode following each Sunday.
AMC from BT will showcase the first window premieres of original series Cleaners, acquired from Sony Pictures Television (5th September at 11:30pm) and two seasons of Manhattan from Lionsgate. Eight seasons of the comedy-drama Weeds will air from 2nd September at 9:00pm, with a double-bill each week.
“BT customers will soon have exclusive access to some of the most anticipated new original series and movies as part of AMC’s launch later this week,” says Delia Bushell, Managing Director, BT TV & BT Sport. “We’re looking forward to showcasing the most compelling new content from one of the world’s most celebrated TV channels for audiences in the months ahead.”
