BritBox UK is getting ready to launch on Amazon Prime Video Channels.
The streaming service, which was created by the BBC and ITV and includes content from Channel 4 and Channel 5, launched at the end of 2019, and has been bringing British programmes and films from the past and present to audiences for just over a year.
Its catalogue includes Broadchurch, Only Fools and Horses, Love Island, Doctor Who Classic, classic cult and sci-fi TV such as The Prisoner, plus original commissions such as a Spitting Image revival. That line-up has helped the service to reach its target of half a million subscribers across the UK.
Now, it’s expanding its footprint with a launch on Prime Video Channels this spring. That will make the service available as an add-on to Amazon Prime accounts via the Prime Video app, Fire TV devices and at amazon.co.uk/channels. Building on partnerships with BT and EE, the launch will make BritBox UK will accessible on more than 40 million devices, which represents approximately 90 per cent of video-on-demand homes.
“It’s great that we’re going to be offering UK Prime members access to the biggest British box sets with the addition of BritBox on Prime Video Channels,” said Julian Monaghan, Director of Amazon Prime Video Channels Europe. “BritBox is a great addition to our selection of entertainment on Prime Video Channels, giving customers even more choice to find the TV series they love.”
Will Harrison, BritBox UK’s Managing Director, said: “We are excited to bring the very best British entertainment to an even wider audience through Amazon Prime Video Channels, especially as we launch even more original content in the spring, summer and beyond.”
Indeed, the launch comes as BritBox prepares to debut its first original drama, The Beast Must Die starring Cush Jumbo and Jared Harris, this May.
