Brie Larson will star in a new CIA drama for Apple’s soon-to-launch TV service.
The tech giant’s streaming platform has been steadily ordering projects and building up a roster of star talent, and they don’t currently come more high-profile than Captain Marvel herself. Larson will star in the untitled spy thriller, which is based on Amaryrillis Fox’s upcoming memoir. Called Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA. the memoirs offer a look at a young woman’s journey through the CIA, with added focus on her closest relationships.
As well as starring, Larson will exec-produce the project, with Lynette Howell Taylor’s 51 Entertainment and studio Media Res producing. Howell Taylor, Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Larson teamed to acquire the book ahead of its publication this October, as well as Fox’s life rights. The result is Media Res’ second series order from Apple, with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon’s untitled Morning Show drama already on the streaming platform’s slate.
Megan Martin (Animal Kingdom) is in talks to write and exec-produce the show, with Taylor and Ellenberg both serving as exec-producers, alongside 51’s Samantha Housman and Medis Res’ co-producer Dani Gorin.
Larson’s project joins another series from a MCU veteran, with Chris Evans exec-producing and starring in the drama Defending Jacob, picked up by Apple last year. The eight-episode drama received a straight-to-series order from the tech company.
