Birgitte Nyborg fans, rejoice! Borgen has finally arrived on VOD in the UK.
UK distributor Arrow Films has snapped up the international digital rights to the Danish series and released all three seasons excluslvely on iTunes.
Adam Price’s drama stars Sidse Babett Knudsen (The Duke of Burgundy) as prime minister Birgitte, whose rise to power is charted over the course of the show, including how it affects her role as a mother and wife, as well as her professional relationships.
Birgitte Hjort Sørensen co-stars as idealistic journalist Katrine, tying the political system to the media world in an increasingly complex relationship.
The series originally aired between 2010 and 2013 and has since gone on to become one of the most popular Nordic television dramas of all time, winning a BAFTA Award for Best International Series and gaining a huge following on both sides of the Atlantic.
Borgen joins a growing stable of international TV drama at Arrow, which has established itself as key player for programmes both Nordic and further afield. In recent years, it has distributed Wallander, The Killing, The Bridge and, most recently, Italian series Gomorrah.
Jonathan Sadler, Marketing Director at Arrow Films, comments: “The popularity of the acclaimed Danish TV series, presented us with the opportunity to break out into other markets beyond the UK while simultaneously bringing the series to a wider audience via iTunes in the US and Canada across digital platforms.”
A book on the making of the series, The Borgen Experience penned by producer Camilla Hammerich will also be available from Arrow Films as an e-book available exclusively from iTunes and on general release as a hard copy on 26th October.
