Bolshoi Babylon is available to watch online in the UK with a range of additional bonus features.
The documentary, from the producer of Man on Wire and Searching for Sugar Man, follows the aftermath of a severe attack on its Creative Director, Sergei Filin, which saw acid thrown in his face. Who carried out the attack? Why? And how will the ballet company recover from the incident and continue its internationally revered art?
“What’s impressive is that directors Nick Read and Mark Franchetti have such wide-ranging access to everyone involved, despite the tumultuous times surrounding them. The result isn’t just an honest take on what it’s like to run a ballet company, but a candid glimpse of a nation during a time of unrest,” we wrote in our review.
The film is released in cinemas this weekend, as well as on VOD, with WeAreColony.com offering the movie to buy and rent with a collection of special features, including a glimpse behind-the-scenes of the making of the movie.
“If we rattled someone’s cage or said the wrong thing to the wrong person, we could have been kicked out,” explains director Read in one interview.
