Gabriel Cowperthwaite’s Blackfish is diving onto VOD and DVD this August – read our DVD review of Blackfish.

The shocking and moving documentary explores the story of notorious performing killer whale Tilikum, who has taken the lives of several people while in captivity. What went wrong? Cowperthwaite’s investigation unearths a string of interviews with former employees of SeaWorld and details the ongoing complex relationship humans have with orcas.

Blackfish will be released on iTunes, DVD and Blu-ray on Monday 26th August. The release will feature exclusive additional features, including an insightful Q&A from Sheffield Doc/Fest.

The release date follows news this week that Netflix UK had snapped up the rights to Cowperthwaite’s documentary. With Apple’s pay-per-view on-demand service offering the film only a matter of weeks after its cinema release, that may give us an idea of how soon Netflix subscribers can expect it to swim onto their screens.
