Billions will officially end with Season 7 this August.
Starring Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll and Maggie Siff, the 12-episode final chapter in the financial drama will also mark the return of Damian Lewis as fan-favourite Bobby “Axe” Axelrod.
In Season 7, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponised. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world. Also returning will be David Costabile, Asia Kate Dillon, Dola Rashad, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sakina Jaffrey, Daniel Breaker and Toney Goins.
“Billions has deftly explored power, money and greed in a way that not only made it a massive hit, but also defined its own genre thanks to the creative brain trust of Brian and David,” said Chris McCarthy, President & CEO, SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks. “This final season is packed full of the incredible, complex dialogue and character dynamics fans have come to love, and we are thrilled to partner with them on turning this hit series into a global franchise.”
Indeed, Billions is being expanded into its own on-screen universe with several TV projects in development, all executive produced by showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien and promising “propulsive storytelling” and “articulately incorrigible characters”. Paul Schiff will also executive produce the new projects in this franchise.
Season 7 will premiere on Paramount+ in the UK on 12th August. Expect episodes to arrive weekly.
Billions renewed for Season 7
19th February 2022
Billions has been renewed for a seventh season by Paramount.
Created by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the series follows District Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis) as the two clash repeatedly in a sea of financial and political plotting.
After airing for four seasons, Season 5 set things up for a change, with Corey Stoll entering the picture as Chuck’s new main opponent, Mike Prince. Season 6 saw Stoll promoted to a series regular, along with Daniel Breaker as Prince’s right hand man Scooter.
Now, with Season 6 still dropping episodes weekly, Paramount has already greenlit a seventh chapter for US broadcaster Showtime – with the show expected to continue airing on Sky Atlantic in the UK. The result makes Billions one of Showtime’s longest-running shows, alongside Homeland, Ray Donovan and Dexter.
The renewal comes as parent company Paramount looks to fold Showtime into Paramount+, its subscription streaming service – a sign that Paramount is consolidating its plans for streaming, although Showtime will still be offered as a standalone option for US viewers. In the UK and Ireland, Paramount+ will launch this summer and will be available on Sky platforms as part of a multi-year distribution agreement. The app will be available on Sky Q, building upon Sky’s aggregation strategy. The platform will also launch in the UK and Ireland as a standalone app for iOS, Android and other devices, although the pricing is yet to be confirmed.
