BBC Three has renewed Dinosaur for a second season.
Filmed and set in Glasgow, the comedy series follows Nina (Ashley Storrie), an autistic woman in her 30s who adores her life living with her sister and best friend, Evie. However, when Evie rushes into an engagement after only six weeks and makes Nina her maid of honour, Nina is floored. Forced to reconcile with her sister’s impulsive decision, Nina grapples with what this new challenge meant, which leads to a surprising journey of self-discovery, sees her explore her own love interest and consider a move away from her hometown for a job promotion.
A show about sisterhood, love, friendship and being yourself, no matter how uncomfortable that might make others, Dinosaur co-stars Kat Ronney (The Royal Mob) as sister Evie, David Carlyle (It’s a Sin) as brother Bo, Greg Hemphill (Still Game) as dad Ade, Sally Howitt (River City) as mum Diane, Lorn Macdonald (BEATS, The Lazarus Project, Bridgerton) as love interest Lee, Danny Ashok (Roadkill, Capital) as Evie’s fiancé, Ranesh, and Sanjeev Kohli (Still Game) as Ranesh’s father, Sachin.
The series won Writer Film/Television for Ashley Storrie and Matilda Curtis whilst Ashley Storrie also took home the Audience Award: Favourite Scot on Screen at the BAFTA Scotland Awards.
Now, BBC Three has ordered another six episodes from Two Brothers Pictures (Fleabag, The Tourist), which produces the programme in association with All3Media International for BBC Three, BBC iPlayer and BBC Scotland.
Sarah Hammond, Exec Producer of Dinosaur and Chief Creative Officer of Two Brothers Pictures says: “Wow. We are beyond grateful to be celebrating the wonderful double whammy of news that is Dinosaur’s BAFTA wins alongside the greenlight on series two. This show is so close to our hearts at Two Brothers and we are so thrilled for Ashley and Matilda, whose hard work and talent has been justly recognised with this double win. Thank you to BAFTA, the BBC and all those involved for championing our little show – pinky hugs all round!”
Ashley Storrie says: “I’m dead chuffed that the amazing team that brought series 1 to life has been recognised by our peers in the Scottish film and television industry and I’m so excited that we’re getting to share more of Nina and her family’s journey. Who knows, there might be actual dinosaurs this time round…”
Matilda Curtis says: “I’m so grateful for the chance to get back into Nina’s world again for Series 2. Dinosaur is the best cast and crew working at the top of their game and I’m over the moon the show has been recognised by BAFTA Scotland!”
