BBC lines up international versions of The Traitors
Before Season 2 of The Traitors reached its gripping finale this week, the BBC has already lined up international versions of the reality series for the year ahead.
Originally conceived in the Netherlands by IDTV, an All3Media company, the format became a huge hit in the UK when Season 1 debuted in 2022. Last year, the Australian and US version of the series both dropped on BBC iPlayer.
Now, three international versions will stream on the Beeb’s platform in 2024, meaning that fans can get their Traitors fix throughout the year. For those who are new to The Traitors, it is a psychological reality game show centred around tactics, betrayal, suspicion and manipulation. Should the Faithful contestants eliminate all the Traitors, they will share the prize fund. If a Traitor makes it to the end, they steal the money.
The UK version of the show, produced by Studio Lambert, is hosted by Claudia Winkleman. Season 2 of The Traitors Australia, hosted by Rodger Corser, began on BBC Three at 10.50pm on Friday 26th January, immediately after the UK Season 2 finale, with all 9 episodes now available as a box set on BBC iPlayer.
It will be followed later this year by Season 2 of The Traitors US, also produced by Studio Lambert and hosted by Alan Cumming. Contestants will include House of Commons speaker John Bercow and previous Love Island contestant Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.
Also coming this year will be The Traitors NZ, hosted by Paul Henry.
Dan McGolpin, Director, BBC iPlayer & Channels says: “The Traitors is one of the most thrilling shows around and the BBC will be following up on the latest UK series with more from Australia, New Zealand and the US, with all of this treachery to be available across 2024 on BBC iPlayer.”
