Walter Presents is diving back into the high-stakes world of finance with Bad Banks this August.

The German thriller follows young banker Jana, who is unjustly fired from a prestigious bank in Luxembourg, only for her dream role conveniently rolls into her lap. Could it be too good to be true?

The show was a huge hit in Germany, winning 13 awards following its release in 2018 and nominated for a further 10, including two Best Actress awards for Paula Beer (Jana Liekam) and two Best Actor awards for Barry Atsma (Gabriel Fenger). (Walter Presents regulars may recognise Atsma from his role as Maik Kneefel in the fourth season of Black Widow.)

Season 1 premiered last spring and now, it’s returning to pick up six months after the dramatic finale – in the wreckage of what happened, young talent Jana is working her way back up the ranks. But personal ambition comes with a price. New players, meanwhile, are stirring up the traditional system. Christelle Leblanc has finally landed her promotion as the head of investment, and, after convincing CIG to keep her on, Jana is set to manage a new sector that will nurture sustainable financial talent. However, she still has scores to settle with Leblanc and is secretly pursuing her own agenda. Having relocated to Berlin, there are now new regulations, new opponents and old flames to overcome.

Season 2 will premiere 7th August, will all six episodes available at once.

 

Bad Banks: Walter Presents bets on German thriller

Walter Presents is betting on a new German thriller to provide high-stakes thrills this Easter, with the premiere of new series Bad Banks.

Set in the high octane world of finance, the series follows young banker Jana, who is unjustly fired from a prestigious bank in Luxembourg, only for her dream role conveniently rolls into her lap. Could it be too good to be true?

After being wrongly fired, young and ambitious Jana is quickly recruited by a top competing bank in Frankfurt, thanks to the unexpected help of Christelle Leblanc, her former boss. Leaving her family behind, she moves to Germany where her drive and ambition quickly pay off and she manages to impress her new team and most crucially her new boss, banking supremo Gabriel Fenger. Despite this upwards trajectory and swift success, she soon realises that that she’s being manipulated. Will Jana survive the merciless power play? This multi-award-winning thriller charts her explosive career, as it plummets and peaks through the darker side of the financial world.

Bad Banks premieres on Channel 4 at 11pm on Thursday 4th April, with the whole box set then available to stream on Walter Presents via All 4.
