Apple has inked an overall deal with Defending Jacob showrunner Mark Bomback.
Based on the 2012 New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, Defending Jacob sees a shocking crime rock a small Massachusetts town and one family in particular, forcing an assistant district attorney to choose between his sworn duty to uphold justice and his unconditional love for his son.
Starring Chris Evans, the show has emerged as one of Apple TV+’s strongest original series, reportedly among the top three series premieres on the tech giant’s fledgling streaming service – since then, Tom Hanks’ Greyhound has been reported as the most-watched Apple TV+ original in its opening weekend.
“A strong cast grounds this legal drama with compelling realism,” we wrote in our review of the drama, which wrapped up a few weeks ago.
Now, creator and showrunner Bomback will be returning to Apple TV+ to develop new TV projects for the subscription service.
Bomback’s name may not be a household one, but audiences will certainly be familiar with his work, with credits including War for the Planet of the Apes, The Wolverine and Unstoppable. He joins a growing roster of talent with deals at Apple TV+, including Idris Elba, Alfonso Cuaron, Sharon Horgan, Simon Kinberg, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Justin Lin.
