Trailer: The Expanse Season 5 set for December release
James R | On 09, Oct 2020
The Expanse is heading back to our screens this December – and a new trailer gives us our first look at Season 5.
The fan favorite science fiction series, produced by Alcon Television Group, follows the disappearance of rich-girl-turned-political-activist Julie Mao, which links the lives of Ceres detective Joe Miller (Thomas Jane), accidental ship captain James Holden (Steven Strait) and U.N. politician Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo). Amid political tension between Earth, Mars and the Belt, they unravel the single greatest conspiracy of all time.
The show was resurrected by Amazon in 2018, after its surprise cancellation. Season 4 of The Expanse, its first as a global Amazon Original, began a new chapter for the series with the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the UN to explore new worlds beyond the Ring Gate. Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt.
Season 5 picks up as the future of The Belt is decided – with Marco Inaros waging Armageddon against the Inners for a lifetime of oppression and injustice. The trailer, which was dropped during the show’s panel at New York Comic-Con, teases the many threads that are able to weave together: Amos (Wes Chatham) will confront his past, Naomi (Dominique Tipper) will try to save her son, Bobbie (Frankie Adams) and Alex (Cas Anvar) will chase a shadowy cabal, Holden (Steven Strait) will grapple with the consequences of his own past, Drummer (Cara Gee) with try to escape what she used to be with a new crew, while Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo) fights to prevent a terrorist attack.
The 10-episode series will premiere on 16th December, with episodes arriving weekly.
The Expanse Season 1 to 5 is available to watch online on Amazon Prime Video as part of a Prime membership or a £5.99 monthly subscription.
Amazon picks up The Expanse for Season 5
30th July 2019
Amazon has picked up The Expanse for a fifth season.
The fan favorite science fiction series, produced by Alcon Television Group, was resurrected by Amazon last year, after its surprise cancellation. Now, shortly after Season 3 finally premiered on Amazon Prime Video in the UK, fans are readying themselves for the arrival of Season 4 on 31st December.
Season 4 of The Expanse, its first as a global Amazon Original, begins a new chapter for the series with the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the U.N. to explore new worlds beyond the Ring Gate. Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt. Ilus is the first of these planets, one rich with natural resources but also marked by the ruins of a long dead alien civilization. While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, these early explorers don’t understand this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them.
Amazon, though, is already looking ahead, announcing at last weekend’s TCA press tour that a fifth season is officially on its way. The Hugo award winning series, based on the hugely popular science fiction novels by James S.A. Corey, was developed and scripted by the Academy Award nominated writing duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby who will executive produce season 4 along with Naren Shankar, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck and Dan Nowak. Shankar serves as showrunner for all seasons.
