All of The X-Files are now available to watch online in the UK on Amazon Prime Video.
The classic sci-fi series returns this year for a limited run (pictured above), an event that has fans of the show clamouring for more Mulder and Scully. While there was reportedly stiff competition to bag the UK rights to the new series, Channel 5 pipped everyone to the post, with the episodes set to air on the Freeview channel in February.
Channel 5’s deal with Fox also included “The X-Files Essential Collection”, a group of episodes selected by creator Chris Carter that aims to take viewers through the story of the original show. But it begged the question: what about the rest of it? Where could fans (or newcomers looking to catch up) watch all of The X-Files online?
Enter Amazon, which has now snapped up the subscription streaming rights to the show, offering every single episode from all nine seasons to Prime Video customers.
Over the years since its 1993 debut, the paranormal investigations of Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny’s FBI agents accrued a massive fanbase around the world, not to mention 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award. The series also starred Mitch Pileggi (Basic Instinct, Sons of Anarchy) as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as “Cigarette Smoking Man”.
This isn’t the first time that The X-Files and Amazon’s paths have crossed, though. The show’s producer, Frank Spotnitz, also helped to bring to life The Man in the High Castle, based on the Philip K. Dick novel, which is now the most popular Amazon original series to date.
How much does it cost to watch The X-Files online? An Amazon Prime Video subscription is £5.99 a month, with no contract. Or, if you want free next-day delivery on Amazon products, Prime Video is included in a full Amazon Prime membership, which costs £79 a year.
