Acorn TV launches in UK

Streaming service Acorn TV has launched in the UK.
The AMC Network platform, which specialises in British and international TV, arrives at a time when the UK streaming market is more competitive than ever, with BritBox and Disney+ taking on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and more.
Acorn TV has racked up more than 1 million subscribers in the US, and aims to find similar success on British soil by combining high-quality, world class dramas and mysteries with comedies from Britain and around the globe.
To help it do that, Acorn TV has some exclusives under its belt, including the series Queens of Mystery, which makes its UK premiere alongside the service’s launch. Created and written by Julian Unthank (Doc Martin, New Tricks) and narrated by Juliet Stevenson (Riviera), the warm-hearted spin on the classic whodunit follows perennially single female detective Mattie (Olivia Vinall, The Woman in White) and her three crime writing aunts – played by Sarah Woodward (The Politician’s Husband), Julie Graham (Penance), and Siobhan Redmond (Unforgotten) – who help her solve murders in the picturesque region of Wildemarsh.
Other notable titles include Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, Partners in Crime and The Witness for the Prosecution, plus George Gently, The Bletchley Circle, Wild at Heart, Foyle’s War, New Zealand detective drama The Brokenwood Mysteries, Scandi drama Black Widows, Australian series Deep Water, Irish detective drama Jack Taylor starring Iain Glen, The Last Enemy starring Benedict Cumberbatch and hit Welsh drama Keeping Faith. New programmes will arrive every Monday, including London Kills and Above Suspicion.
The service is available on Roku, Fire TV, Android and Apple mobile and Apple TV and is coming soon to Amazon Channels and Apple TV Channels. It costs £4.99 a month, or £49.99 a year, with an extended 30-day free trial available for a limited time.
