The Queen may be coming to Netflix, according to rumours from the Guardian.
The newspaper reports that the Internet TV company has fought off competition from BBC and ITV for a new £100m epic following Queen Elizabeth II’s six decades on the throne.
The TV series would span 20 episodes amd be inspired by Peter Morgan’s play, The Audience, which was a huge success in London’s West End last year, bagging Helen Mirren – who reprised her royal role – an Olivier award for Best Actress.
Peter Morgan, who wrote the 2006 Oscar-winner The Queen, which led to QEII 2 (as we like to call it), would return once more to pen the show, while Stephen Daldry would direct.
If true, the show (from Sony Pictures’ indie arm, Left Bank Pictures) would be the first Netflix Original series the be made in the UK.
Keep your crown jewels on, though: this has not been confirmed by any official sources yet.
