Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 to air exclusively on Netflix UK

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 will air exclusively on Netflix in the UK.
The streaming giant acquired the UK rights to The CW’s musical earlier this year, with Season 1 arriving in June 2016. The deal is not the first for the VOD company and CBS Television Studios, with both parties also agreeing the exclusive UK rights to old and new Star Trek.
It joins a string of high-profile US acquisitions by the service, including Pretty Little Liars, Once Upon a Time, iZombie, Power and Breaking Bad.
Initially developed for Showtime, before they passed, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend stars Rachel Bloom as Rebecca, a lawyer who jettisons her New York life to move to California in an attempt to win back Josh, the boy who dumped her ages ago. Bloom is joined by Vincent Rodriguez III as Josh, Santino Fontana as his best friend, Donna Lynne Champlin as Rebecca’s co-worker, Pete Gardner as Rebecca’s clueless boss and Gabrielle Ruiz as Josh’s controlling ex-girlfriend.
The series was created by Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna, with Marc Webb and Erin Ehrlich joining them both as exec producers. Each episode features songs by Adam Schlesinger, composer of the titular song for That Thing You Do! and Tony nominee for his work on the musical Cry-Baby.
Netflix’s deal includes the rights to future seasons of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, with Season 2 premiering on 23rd October. New episodes will arrive on the site every week, within 48 hours of their US broadcast.
“Familiar sitcom tropes, such as the impassive millennial and the dumb-but-sweet guy, are immediately elevated by self-aware and hilarious numbers. A clumsy set-up becomes a wonderfully comic premise, thanks to hilarious song writing,” we wrote in our review of the show.
“Each episode of this intelligently funny series is a perfectly formed musical in its own right.”
Update: 22nd October
Episode 1 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 has landed on Netflix UK a day earlier than announced. Expect new episodes to premiere on Saturdays every week rather than Sunday.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is now on Netflix UK
30th June 2016
Netflix has acquired the UK rights to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
Search for a list of the best US shows unavailable on UK TV in the last year and The CW’s musical was bound to be on that list – happily, though, it can now be crossed off, with the streaming giant snapping up the show for exclusive streaming on British soil.
The arrival of Season 1 ends one heck of a week for Netflix UK, with today also seeing the whole of Star Trek’s TV output land on the service. The two are no coincidence, though, as both are distributed by CBS Television Studios. Combined with other high-profile US series, such as Pretty Little Liars, Scream, Once Upon a Time, iZombie, Power and Breaking Bad, Netflix has now established itself as a rival to traditional broadcasters when it comes to stateside acquisitions.
Initially developed for Showtime, before they passed, the programme was beefed up from a 30-minute comedy to a full hour-long dramedy by The CW, with Rachel Bloom starring as Rebecca, a whip-smart lawyer who jettisons her New York life to move to California in an attempt to win back Josh, the boy who dumped her ages ago.
The show has already been renewed by The CW for a second season.
