It’s Jason Statham’s birthday today and, to be frank, we’re excited.

At the age of just 47, The Stath has achieved an incredible amount. He’s studied martial arts (“all styles from Win Chun to karate to kickboxing”), he’s modelled for French Connection. He’s been in a music video for The Beautiful South. He was even – as we all discovered this week – a member of Britain’s National Diving Squad for the 1990 Commonwealth Games. And he was almost cast as the new Doctor. Sort of.

In short, is there anything Jason Statham hasn’t done?

On top of all of that, of course, he’s now one of cinema’s great action stars – not just because of his collaborations with Guy Ritchie, but also his work with Luc Besson and Neveldine/Taylor. Who else could balance the absurdity of a man needing to keep his adrenaline up to stay alive while at the same time shooting people, running really quickly, being likeable and looking really sexy despite having no hair?

There is little doubt that Jason Statham is a straight-up national treasure.
