Whale with Steve Backshall: Season 1 (Sky Nature, 8pm) – 3rd December

Forensics: Catching the Killer: Season 3 (Sky Crime, 9pm) – 5th December
Forensics: Catching the Killer returns with eight new cases – each one resolved thanks in part to the role of forensic science. We open with a ninety-minute special that follows the forensic work to catch Soham murderer Ian Huntley. When 10-year old best friends Holly Marie Wells and Jessica Amiee Chapman disappeared in the summer of 2002, an intensive search was launched, ending with the discovery of their bodies almost two-weeks later. What followed was a bizarre chain of events where school janitor Huntley became an unofficial spokesperson for the town of Soham in media interviews, claiming to be the last person to see the girls alive. However, forensic evidence found in Huntley’s dwellings and car would prove him to be the killer.
Smothered: Season 1 (Sky Comedy, 10pm) – 7th December
Will they? Won’t they? Should they? Shouldn’t they? Co-Created by Monica Heisey (writer, Schitt’s Creek), Smothered, is a not so typical rom-com. Starring Danielle Vitalis (I May Destroy You, Black Mirror) and Jon Pointing (Big Boys) in a tale of two worlds colliding, where romance blossoms but the pressures of modern dating linger.
Sammy (Vitalis) is a fiercely independent young woman who is done with dating apps, sick of immature men, and here for a good time. Tom (Pointing) has never been inclined to swipe left or right; he’s a settled man with a warm heart but carries his fair share of baggage. They meet, sing karaoke, and enjoy an easy-going, no-strings fling. So far so simple, right? Except that as sparks start to fly, what was supposed to be a few weeks of great sex, pasta in bed and first names only turns into something else… At least until Sammy makes the shocking discovery that there is another woman in Tom’s life: his six-year-old daughter Ellie.
Bad Host: Hunting the Couch Surfing Predator (Sky Documentaries, 10pm) – 9th December
This is the story of how a group of remarkable young women, unbeknownst to each other, were all victims of a predator – a serving Italian police officer – who lured them to stay with him using Couchsurfing, a website where travellers can find trustworthy hosts to put them up in their homes for free. Tracing each other through the internet, the young women united and battled for six years, often in the face of indifference in their home countries, to bring him to justice.
KIDZ BOP: Never Stop Live Tour (Sky Kids) – 11th December
Sing and dance along with the KIDZ BOP Kids Chanel, Sadie, Toby and Ziame as they perform today’s biggest hits live on stage including “As It Was,” “About That Time,” “Anti-Hero,” and many more. Who Killed Robert Wone? Season 1 (Sky Crime, 9pm) – 11th December
n the night of August 2, 2006, Victor Zaborsky calls 911 to report an intruder stabbing a friend at the D.C. home he shares with Joe Price and Dylan Ward. First responders arrive to find attorney Robert Wone already dead in the guest room. With little blood at the scene and no signs of struggle or robbery, suspicions heighten after police interview the three housemates. Believing the men know more than they are revealing, the investigation soon uncovers more questions than answers.
James Acaster: Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999 (Sky Comedy, 9pm) – 12th December
James Acaster dissects the best year of his life to date, 1999, and the worst year, 2017, in his widely raved about stand-up special James Acaster: Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999. Dynamo is Dead (Sky Max, 9pm) – 14th December
The world-renowned magician Dynamo is back as you’ve never seen him before – embarking on a transformative and soul-searching journey to explore the depths of mental health and well-being. As he grapples with his own struggles, Dynamo seeks answers from inspirational figures around the world so that he can bury his past and find a new beginning. The climax of the show will be broadcast live – his journey of recovery will end with him attempting his most dangerous stunt ever… being buried alive.
Rob & Romesh vs Lapland (Sky Max, 7pm) – 17th December
For Christmas 2023, Rob & Romesh are spending the festive season in Lapland. The domain of elves, reindeer, festive magic and Santa Claus, Rob and Romesh will be trying their hand at all these jobs to see if there’s one Christmas activity that they have the Christmas spirit for.
Leo Reich: Literally Who Cares?! (Sky Comedy, 9pm) – 18th December
Hot. Young. Cool. Fresh. Ripped. Hilarious. Groundbreaking. Avant-garde. These are just some of the words that comedian and writer Leo Reich uses to describe himself. In his first TV comedy special, this self-diagnosed important young mind faces the swirling uncertainty of our collective future, asking the big questions, such as: “Is this helping?”, “Am I hot?”, and “No offense guys but literally what is going on?”
Dickens in Italy (Sky Arts, 8pm) – 19th December
Actor and Writer David Harewood follows in the footsteps of one of the world’s most famous writers and his little-known journey through Italy’s most beautiful cities. Reframing the idea that Dickens was a quintessentially English writer, David will uncover Italy’s influence on Dickens’ writing style, political beliefs and its personal impact as he traces the novelist’s Grand Tour through Venice, Naples, Genoa and Rome.
Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Sky Max, 9pm) – 19th December
Greg, Daisy, Noel and Jamali are making some Christmas noise in this special edition of the music-based panel show, with the gang joined by big-collared funnyman Harry Hill, Little Mix superstar Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Kaiser Chiefs frontman and Yorkshire Tea enthusiast Ricky Wilson. Plus, there’s special appearances from 100% of DJ Luck and MC Neat, two fifths of 5ive, two sevenths of The Wurzels, and one half of Blazin’ Squad’s remaining squad.
A Very Brassic Christmas

In the second part of Sky Arts’ Dickens Christmas specials, David Harewood explores the haunting world of Charles Dickens’ supernatural tales, delving into his eerie and atmospheric worlds through actor readings and archive footage, and exploring the popularity of ghost stories during the Victorian era.
Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir: Christmas Special (Sky Arts, 8pm) – 22nd December
In this Christmas special Jim Moir and his wife Nancy continue their ornithological adventure, this time seeking out their favourite seasonal birds, with a special focus on the beautiful yuletide wanderer, the bohemian Waxwing, whose festive headgear, berry eating diet and community spirit sums up so much of what Christmas is about.
The Unofficial Science of Die Hard (Sky Max, 9pm) – 23rd December
This Christmas, Chris Ramsey and Paul Chowdhry, alongside engineer Zoe Laughlin, will scientifically assess stunts from much-loved Christmas action film, Die Hard. From rooftop escapes to walking over shattered glass, Chris and Paul will put the stunts to the test to discover how to tackle them in real life. Along the way, the pair will set out to answer the biggest question of all: is Die Hard a Christmas film?

Twelve-year-old Mikey Collins is a Belfast kid who’s dirt-poor and hates Christmas. One cold December evening, while playing in the woods with his little brother Sean, he finds two guys dressed like Santa lying unconscious in the woods. One Santa (James Nesbitt) has just robbed a bank and is on the run with a bulging sack full of cash. The other Santa (Timothy Spall) claims to have fallen out of his sleigh. Mikey has no time for this second guy – he’s well past believing any of the Jingle Bells, spirit-of-the-season rubbish, even if Sean insists on treating the old man like a superstar. Instead, Mikey’s determined to get his hands on the bank-robber Santa’s cash, convinced that this is the answer to giving his family the Christmas they deserve. But as Mikey risks everything for the loot, he comes to realise that maybe the spirit of Christmas is alive after all…

The trio includes a princess, a former charioteer, and his younger brother, along with their pet baby crocodile. Through a series of unfortunate events, the mummies end up in present-day London and embark on a wacky and hilarious journey in search of an old ring belonging to the Royal Family, which was stolen by the ambitious archaeologist Lord Carnaby.

A seemingly unremarkable man in his sixties named Harold (Jim Broadbent) one day learns that his old friend Queenie is dying. He embarks on a walk, only to keep going for 724kms until he reaches Queenie’s hospice, much to the despair of his wife Maureen.

Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) plays Samuel Beckett with young Beckett played by Fionn O’Shea (Normal People) in a sweeping account of the life of this 20th century icon. Parisian bon vivant, World War II resistance fighter, Nobel Prize-winning playwright, philandering husband and recluse, Samuel Beckett lived a life of many parts. In this playful film we see his life through his mistakes and fraught relationships with James Joyce (Aidan Gillen – Game Of Thrones), his wife Suzanne (Sandrine Bonnaire – Vagabond) and his lover Barbara Bray (Maxine Peake – The Theory of Everything). The Machine – 16th December
Bert Kreischer rose to fame as a stand-up comedian known as The Machine, and in his signature set he recounts his true experience with Russian mobsters while on a booze-soaked college trip. Now, 23 years later, that trip has come back to haunt him as he and his estranged father (Mark Hamill) are kidnapped back to Russia by the mob to atone for something they say he did. Together, Bert and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self (Jimmy Tatro) in the midst of a war within a sociopathic crime family, all while attempting to find common ground in their often fraught relationship.

The Super Mario Bros Movie – 25th December

Shazam! Fury of the Gods – 15th December
Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy— aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.
The Machine – 16th December
Bert Kreischer rose to fame as a stand-up comedian known as The Machine, and in his signature set he recounts his true experience with Russian mobsters while on a booze-soaked college trip. Now, 23 years later, that trip has come back to haunt him as he and his estranged father (Mark Hamill) are kidnapped back to Russia by the mob to atone for something they say he did. Together, Bert and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self (Jimmy Tatro) in the midst of a war within a sociopathic crime family, all while attempting to find common ground in their often fraught relationship.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – 22nd December

Silent Night – 23rd December
A gritty revenge tale from director John Woo. A tormented father who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.
The Super Mario Bros Movie – 25th December
Based on the world of Nintendo’s Mario games, the film invites audiences into a vibrant, thrilling new universe unlike any created before in an action-packed, exuberant cinematic comedy event. While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt; Jurassic World and The LEGO Movie franchises) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi. Polite Society – 29th December
This merry mash-up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment and bold action follows martial artist-in-training Ria Khan who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.
Sisu – 30th December
During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex- commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back — even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path.
