What’s coming soon to Netflix UK in May 2016?
David Farnor | On 26, Apr 2016
Netflix steps up its original content game in May.
A year ago, the streaming entered new territory with the release of Grace and Frankie, an original comedy-drama starring Lily Tonlim and Jane Fonda – the kind of series designed to appeal to a more mature crowd than its superhero outings with Marvel. This year, as the duo prepare to return for a second run, Netflix is expanding its horizons even further, with the premiere of Chelsea Handler’s new talk show, Chelsea, which will be recorded in front of a live audience shortly before it’s released worldwide online – with multiple episodes released a week. Marseille, meanwhile, marks the debut of Netflix’s first French original production.
For those who prefer their streaming entertainment on the safer side, rest assured: there are plenty of familiar comforts on offer, from the return of It’s Always Sunny to Season 2 of Bloodline and Chef’s Table’s second serving. There’s even another Adam Sandler comedy on the way too.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Netflix UK in May 2016:
Note: Future release dates are always subject to change – this information is, however, official and provided to us by Netflix. We also regularly update our listings, including this page, to ensure that you have the most up-to-date, comprehensive information available.
iZombie: Season 1 and 2 – 1st May
A nice surprise at the start of the month is the unannounced arrival of Season 1 and 2 of iZombie. The CW’s series, based on the Vertigo comic book series, follows Olivia, a medical resident on the fast track to a perfect life… until she’s turned into a zombie. Transferring to the city morgue to get access to human brains, she finds that chomping on them gives her flashes of the corpse’s memories – including, at times, clues as to how they were killed. Her boss, a brilliant but eccentric conspiracy theorist, encourages her to embrace this gift and to work with an eager, unproven homicide detective to help solve these murders. Marseille: Season 1 – 5th May
Netflix’s first French original series, which mixes House of Cards’ political backstabbing with continental class, stars Gerard Depardieu as Robert Taro, the titular city’s Mayor for the last 20 years, who prepares his last coup ahead of the municipal elections: pushing through the vote for the construction of a casino in the historic centre of the Marina. He’s even got his successor, Lucas Barrès, lined up. But the latter’s all-consuming ambition and the secret interests of the city’s leaders, whether they come from its opulent villas or from the cities of the northern suburbs, impede the Mayor’s plans – and a power struggle begins.
Grace and Frankie: Season 2 – 6th May

Red Army – 7th May
Anyone who’s ever watched an international football game will be well aware of the importance sports can have on a global scale: a victory can be a symbolic triumph; a defeat, a shaming disgrace.
