What’s coming soon to Netflix UK in July 2020?
James R | On 29, Jun 2020
While the UK prepares to slowly exit lockdown and restart some measure of normality across society, Netflix is giving you no reason to leave the house just yet, with a jam-packed July of entertainment.
Cable Girls, Derry Girls, Norseman, Good Girls and Last Chance U all return for new seasons, led by the second run of The Umbrella Academy. New series, meanwhile, include Cate Blanchett-created Stateless and Arthurian retelling Cursed, plus a reboot of The Baby-Sitters Club for family audiences and a reimagining of The Grudge for adult viewers.
Big screen favourites such as Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the original Jurassic Park trilogy and BlacKkKlansman are all on the way too, joined by Netflix original actioner The Old Guard and rom-som sequel The Kissing Booth 2. Also, Zac Efron hosts his own travel show.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Netflix UK in July 2020:
Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 1 – 1st July
The producers of Stranger Things (21 Laps) are behind this reboot of the classic docuseries, which will focus on one mystery each episode and look to viewers to help aid investigators in closing the book on long outstanding cases.
Jurassic Park – 1st July
The original trilogy arrives on Netflix, joining the two Jurassic World movies to make for one dino-tastic marathon.
Deadwind: Season 2 – 1st July
Just months after a tragic loss, detective Sofia Karppi investigates the murder of a woman with ties to a Helsinki construction company…
Motherland: Season 1 – 1st July
Acerbic, witty and borderline panic-inducing, this candid portrait of modern motherhood is stellar TV.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout – 3rd July
The Mission: Impossible franchise jumps to new heights with a gripping, astonishing piece of action cinema.
The Baby-Sitters Club: Season 1 – 3rd July
Based on Ann M. Martin’s best-selling book series, The Baby-Sitters Club is a contemporary series that will follow the friendship and babysitting adventures of five best friends – Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer – in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.
Cable Girls: Season 5, Part 2 – 3rd July
Blanca Suárez (Lidia), Nadia de Santiago (Marga), Ana Polvorosa (Óscar), Ana Fernández (Carlota), Denisse Peña (Sofía), Concha Velasco (Doña Carmen), Yon González (Francisco), and Nico Romero (Pablo) return for the final five chapters, which see the Spanish fighters and friends reach the end of their story as they began it: together.
Ju-On: Origins – 3rd July
Netflix is bringing The Grudge into the box set age with a new series based on the classic Japanese horror film.
Jim Jefferies: Intolerant – 7th July

Stateless: Season 1 – 8th July
Cate Blanchett stars in and has co-created this drama, which follows four strangers whose lives collide at an immigration detention centre in the middle of the Australian desert: an airline hostess on the run from a dangerous cult, an Afghan refugee and his family fleeing persecution, a young father escaping a dead-end job and a bureaucrat running out of time to contain a national scandal. Yvonne Strahovski and Dominic West co-star.
The Protector: Season 4 – 9th July
Istanbul is in the palm of an unknown enemy, The Vizier. While Hakan now has the help of Nisan, Burak and a new Loyal Army, it is his past that enlightens him the most in this battle.
Derry Girls: Season 2 – 9th July
With its hysterical dialogue, instantly fully formed characters and bracing ability to turn its context (The Troubles in the 1990s) into surtext with wit and heart, this Channel 4 comedy is one of the funniest new comedies in recent memory.
The Old Guard – 10th July
Forever is harder than it looks. Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to stel and monetise their power by any means necessary.
Down to Earth with Zac Efron: Season 1 – 10th July
In his new travel show, actor Zac Efron journeys around the world with wellness expert Darin Olien in search of healthy, sustainable ways to live.
The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants in Space! – 10th July
George and Harold are in for the ultimate field trip: outer space! Join along as they embark on an out-of-this-world adventure filled with doppelganger aliens, mind-controlling sirens, and a mysterious mission.
The Claudia Kishi Club (Short) – 10th July
For many Asian American women (and other women of color), Claudia Kishi was the first time they saw themselves in popular media. A main character in the best-selling Baby-Sitters Club books, she was one of the only Asian Americans in 80s-90s popular culture. Not only was Claudia a rare Asian American protagonist, but she also defied stereotypical portrayals of Asian characters: she was creative, popular, and (gasp!) bad at school. For readers who craved seeing themselves in the media they consumed—not as exotic others or token sidekicks, but as fully realized human beings—Claudia was a revelation.
Cursed: Season 1 – 17th July
Cursed, Netflix’s reimagining of Arthurian legend, co-created by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, retells the familiar legend through the eyes of the young woman with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake.
Norsemen: Season 3 – 22nd July
Norheim’s villagers return for a third outing of Netflix’s amusing Viking sitcom.
Love on the Spectrum: Season 1 – 22nd July
Finding love can be hard for anyone. For young adults on the autism spectrum, exploring the unpredictable world of dating is even more complicated.
The Kissing Booth 2 – 24th July
This sequel to the hit Netflix rom-com catches up with Elle Evans (Joey King) after the most romantic summer of her life with her reformed bad-boy boyfriend Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi). But now Noah is off to Harvard, and Elle heads back to high school for her senior year. She’ll have to juggle a long-distance relationship, getting into her dream college with her best friend, Lee (Joel Courtney), and the complications brought on by a close friendship with a handsome, charismatic new classmate named Marco (Taylor Perez).
BlacKkKlansman – 24th July
Oscar award-winning true-life crime comedy about a black detective out to make a name for himself in 70s Colorado – by infiltrating and exposing the Ku Klux Klan – from director Spike Lee.
Sing On! Spain: Season 1 – 24th July
In this new singing contest, players face off on some of the biggest hits, and the jackpot of up to 30,000 euros grows every time they hit the right note.
Good Girls: Season 3 – 26th July
Beth, Ruby and Annie are back in business, and this time, cash is queen.
Last Chance U: Season 5 – 28th July
Netflix’s award-winning documentary, which follows players on a quest for redemption in the game, in the classroom and in life, returns for one last season, catching up with the junior college football programme at Laney College in the heart of Oakland, California.
The Hater – 29th July
An ambitious young man starts working in the dark world of social media smear tactics, and learns that virtual vitriol has dire real-life consequences. This Polish film was snapped up after it won the Best International Narrative Feature prize at this year’s online Tribeca Film Festival.
Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege – 30th July
Netflix tells the story of the War for Cybertron in this new origin story anime that sees forces of good and evil clash as they search for the source of the Transformers’ power: the Allspark.
The Umbrella Academy: Season 2 – 31st July
Based on the comic book series created and written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics, Netflix’s darkly funny superhero thriller follows seven children who were adopted by a billionaire who created The Umbrella Academy and prepared them to save the world. Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins.
The Speed Cubers (Short) – 29th July
Speed Cubing, which is the competitive sport of solving a Rubik’s Cube in mere seconds, has grown into a worldwide phenomenon in recent years. For nearly a decade in the sport, Feliks Zemdegs from Australia, has reigned unchallenged as the king of cubers, the greatest of all time. That is, until now.
