What’s coming soon to Netflix UK in August 2020?

While the UK navigates its way out of lockdown, Netflix is still giving you no reason to rush away from your living room. August sees the return of 3%, The Rain, Dirty John, High Seas, and Aggretsuko, as well as the much-anticipated penultimate run of Lucifer.
Families can look forward to the conclusion of Guillermo del Toro’s epic Tales of Arcadia and The Magic School Bus venturing into space.
On the film front, Netflix’s new sci-fi thriller Project Power is joined by modern gem The Peanut Butter Falcon.
And, to top it all, the most exciting arrival of the month actually originates from YouTube, as Karate Kid prequel series Cobra Kai becoming a Netflix original ahead of its exclusive third season in the future.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Netflix UK in August 2020:
The Fall: Season 1 to 3 – 1st August
A chance for Jamie Dornan fans to catch up with all three seasons of this intense crime drama.
Rising Phoenix – 26th August
On 29 July 1948 – the day of the opening ceremony of the 1948 Olympic Games – Dr Ludwig Guttmann organised the first competition for wheelchair athletes. Rising Phoenix tells the extraordinary story of how the Paralympic Games came to change the world.
The Peanut Butter Falcon – 3rd August
A modern Mark Twain-esque adventure starring Shia LeBeouf as a small time outlaw turned unlikely coach who meets Zak (Zack Gottsagen), a young man with Down Syndrome on the run, with the dream of becoming a professional wrestler with Dakota Johnson (Susperia) as Zak’s loving carer.
Anelka: Misunderstood – 5th August
Bad boy or football genius? Famed French footballer Nicolas Anelka’s controversial legacy is examined in this unflinching documentary.
The Rain: Season 3 – 6th August
The final season of Netflix’s dystopian thriller will pick up where the second season left off, with Simone and Rasmus at odds on how to save humanity.
Upgrade – 7th August
Leigh Whannell’s inventive body horror fuses old-school revenge with modern tech paranoia.
Selling Sunset: Season 3 – 7th August
Netflix’s hit reality series returns to continue following the drama at The Oppenheim Group, where elite real estate brokers sell the luxurious life to affluent buyers.
Wizards: Tales of Arcadia – 7th August
Characters from Trollhunters and 3 Below combine for the final chapter in Guillermo del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia trilogy, which sees conflict brewing between the human, troll and magical worlds.
High Seas: Season 3 – 7th August
Spain’s all-at-sea thriller returns for a third voyage, as luxury transatlantic ship Bárbara de Braganza heads from Argentina to Mexico, only for more strange goings-on to surface, leaving the Villanueva sisters to once again solve what’s happening – this time, involving a scientist with a deadly secret.
The New Legends of Monkey: Season 2 – 7th August
A valiant girl liberates the Monkey King — a god long trapped in stone — in a quest to find seven sacred scrolls and save the world from evil.
The Magic School Bus Rides Again: Kids in Space – 7th August
The Magic School Bus kids blast into space and onto the International Space Station, only to find themselves on the run from a giant tardigrade.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl – 12th August
Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena makes history in her journey from aspiring aviator to India’s first female combat pilot in the Kargil War.
3%: Season 4 – 14th August
A post-apocalyptic thriller set in near-future Brazil, where a select few are allowed to join a privileged society after undergoing an intense and competitive process. In the last season of the show, the conflict between the Shell and the Offshore is wide open and war is imminent.
Project Power – 14th August
What would you risk for five minutes of pure power? That’s the question at the heart of Netflix’s new sci-fi thriller starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. On the streets of New Orleans, word begins to spread about a mysterious new pill that unlocks superpowers unique to each user. The catch: You don’t know what will happen until you take it. While some develop bulletproof skin, invisibility, and super strength, others exhibit a deadlier reaction. But when the pill escalates crime within the city to dangerous levels, a local cop teams with a teenage dealer and a former soldier to fight power with power – and risk taking the pill to track down and stop the group responsible for creating it.
Dirty John: Season 2 – 14th August
Netflix’s true crime anthology returns for a second story ripped from the headlines. This time, Amanda Peet stars as socialite Betty Broderick, who hits a homicidal boiling point during a bitter divorce from her unfaithful husband.
The Great Heist: Season 1 – 14th August
In 1994, a team of thieves plan an ambitious heist to steal millions from the Colombia’s Bank of the Republic. Inspired by true events.
Biohackers: Season 1 – 20th August
When “Mia” (Luna Wedler) begins her medical degree, she seems like any other student. But when she gains the trust of the brilliant Professor Lorenz (Jessica Schwarz), it becomes apparent that she’s hiding a secret so big it could change the fate of humanity. From the director of Girlboss (Christian Ditter) comes a thriller that will make you question the makeup of life itself.
The Crimes That Bind – 20th August
Cecilia Roth stars in this Argentine drama about a desperate mother who will do the impossible to prevent her only son from being sentenced to prison on charges of attempted murder of his ex-wife. In the middle of all this, Alicia also discovers a rugged hidden plot that will change her life completely – into a nightmare.
Lucifer: Season 5 Part 1 – 21st August
Tom Ellis returns as the original fallen angel, who has given up his throne in the underworld for the underbelly of Los Angeles, where he helps the cops to punish criminals. This penultimate season sees him head for home, leading to some unexpected family complications.
Hoops: Season 1 – 21st August
This new adult animation follows a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks turning around his awful team will take him to the big leagues. Jake Johnson stars.
Aggretsuko: Season 3 – 27th August
Based on the beloved Sanrio character, the anime follows Retsuko as she navigates company politics, befriends co-workers, and attempts to maintain a healthy work/life balance. From her meddling mother to nightmarish coworkers, the tiny red panda’s story is a reminded to us all that internal strength comes from the strangest places – in this animal’s case, it’s by venting stress just private death metal karaoke sessions.
Cobra Kai: Season 1 to 2 – 28th August
This hugely entertaining sequel to The Karate Kid sees Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles from the 1980s sports classic as arch-rivals Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. Several decades older, with the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament a distant memory, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) lives with his beautiful family, while running a successful string of car dealerships, and Lawrence (William Zabka), whose life has taken a rocky turn, seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, promising to teach local kids how to fight with “a method of fighting your pansy-ass generation desperately needs”. Originally a YouTube Original series, it’s now moving to Netflix with a third season on the way.
