BritBox, the streaming service created by BBC and ITV, has officially gone live in the UK, as the public service broadcasters team up to take on Netflix.

The subscription VOD platform undercuts Netflix, priced just £5.99 a month, but more important than the pricing is the content on offer. When its deal with Channel 4 comes into effect, the streaming service’s library will expand significantly, but until then, BritBox is slowly but surely adding more titles to its collection of British box sets centred on homegrown talent.

Here’s what’s coming soon to BritBox in December 2019:

Christmas Specials – 1st December

BritBox is unveiling a host of Christmas specials this month, from Birds of a Feather and BlackAdder to French and Saunders to The Only Way Is Essex. For the full list, see below.

Miss Marple: Season 1 and 2 – 19th December

Joan Hickson is iconic in the BBC TV series based on Agatha Christie’s much-loved detective, which aired from 1984 to 1992.

Harry Potter: A History of Magic – 19th December

In the run-up to the 2017 exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic, JK Rowling visits the British Library and reveals the real-life counterparts to her fantastical world.

Being Poirot – 19th December

After two decades playing Hercule Poirot, David Suchet goes on a journey to unravel the greatest mystery of all – the story behind the detective himself. Filmed on location in London and Belgium, Being Poirot features key locations like Agatha Christie’s former home as well as behind-the-scenes footage of the actors on set. As Poirot prepares to face the final curtain, expert interviews and David’s own personal insight paint a unique portrait of one of the world’s best loved detectives.

Polyanna – 19th December

Georgina Terry stars in the 2002 TV movie about the 11-year-old girl who, after the unexpected death of her parents, is taken in by her Aunt Polly (Amanda Burton).

Tarka the Otter – 19th December

David Cobham’s 1979 adaptation of Henry Williamson’s novel follows the life of a real otter and its adventures in the wild.

The Cry – Date TBC

Jenna Coleman stars as an exhausted new mother in this nervy thriller. Accompanying her husband to Australia, she finds herself pushed to the limit when events take a turn, and her life is changed forever.
