What’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video UK in September 2021?

Everybody’s talking about Amazon Prime Video this September, as it debuts not only a filmed version of the hit stage musical but also a new musical take on Cinderella, starring Camila Cabello. That plus the final outing for legal drama Goliath? September may well be a month to sing about.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video UK in September 2021:
Elementary: Season 1 to 7 – 1st September
CBS’ Sherlock series isn’t the BBC series, but that’s the point: this contemporary US update, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson, has won fans thanks to its novel approach to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s originals.
Cinderella – 3rd September
Written and directed by Kay Cannon, this new take on the fairytale features an all-star cast, including singer/songwriter Camila Cabello, Idina Menzel and Billy Porter, with pop songs from contemporary artists and original songs by Cabello and Menzel. Cabella plays Cinerella, an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow, but with the help of her Fab G (Billy Porter), she is able to persevere and make her dreams come true. Cabello is joined by Minnie Driver, Pierce Brosnan and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Charming. Joining them are James Acaster in his first film role and Romesh Ranganathan as mine footmen, along with James Corden, who is also a producer on the project. Mumbai Diaries 26/11 9th September
Mumbai Diaries is set against the backdrop of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks on 26th November, which tragically took the lives of at least 165 people. Several films have been made in the years since, but Mumbai Diaries seeks to uncover the untold stories of the brave first responders and hospital staff who saved several lives as chaos unfolded before them.
Mumbai Diaries is a medical thriller set in the emergency room of a government hospital. The series explores the challenges faced by the medical staff at the hospital as well as other first responders across the city of Mumbai in dealing with a crisis of immense magnitude. In this battle to save lives and heal others, the ones doing the fixing are the most broken.
Straight Outta Compton – 11th September
The solid elements just about the outweigh the stodgy ones in this entertaining N.W.A. biopic.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – 17th September
Inspired by true events, this film based on the hit musical follows Jamie New, a teenager from Sheffield, who dreams of life on stage. While his classmates plan their livelihoods after they leave school, Jamie contemplates revealing his secret career ambition to become a fierce and proud drag queen. His best friend Pritti and his loving mum shower him with endless support, while local drag legend Miss Loco Chanelle mentors him toward his debut stage performance. But Jamie also has to contend with an unsupportive father, an uninspired careers advisor, and some ignorant school kids who attempt to rain on his sensational parade. In rousing and colourful musical numbers, Jamie and his community inspire one another to overcome prejudice, be more accepting, and to step out of the darkness into the spotlight.

Back to the Rafters – 17th September
Back to the Rafters offers the next chapter in the story of the Rafter family, who charmed Australian audiences for six years in one of Australia’s most popular drama series, Packed to the Rafters. At its centre were parents Dave and Julie, working to balance their own journey as a couple with the ups and downs of raising a family into adulthood. Back to the Rafters picks up six years since we last saw the Rafter family. Dave and Julie have created a new life in the country with youngest daughter Ruby, while the older Rafter children face new challenges and Grandpa Ted struggles to find his place. As Dave enjoys his new found freedom, Julie must reconcile her responsibilities to the family.
