Amazon is bringing back Bosch – sort of – this summer, with the debut of crime drama spin-off Ballard. It’s joined by an action comedy starring Idris Elba, The Chosen, the final chapter of The Summer I Turned Pretty and a slew of documentaries and true crime offerings.

Heads of State – 2nd July

In the action-comedy Heads of State, the UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardises their countries’ “special relationship”. But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary — who proves more than a match for the two leaders’ security forces — they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other.

Ballard continues to bring Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels to life, following Detective Renée Ballard (Q) as she leads the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. One Night In Idaho: The College Murders: Season 1 – 11th July

On 13th November, 2022 – in the still of the night – four University of Idaho students are brutally stabbed to death in an off-campus house in the quiet college town of Moscow, Idaho. Within the devastated families and the community at large, questions and fear abound. What happened? Who did this, and could the killer be among us? And why these four young adults? The Crossbow Cannibal – 12th July

This true crime special profiles the story of Stephen Griffiths, who created his own deadly persona in the hope of following in the footsteps of his idol – serial killer Peter Sutcliffe. 15 years since the ‘Crossbow Cannibal’ was arrested, this documentary looks at one of the most gruesome cases in British criminal history, profiling the making of a murderer who drew inspiration from other serial killers.

The Chosen: Season 5 – 13th July

The Chosen: Last Supper (Season 5) follows Jesus’ (Jonathan Roumie) triumph to treachery as his final days unfold in a story that changed the world. The Summer I Turned Pretty: Season 3 – 16th July

Life’s too short not to spend it with the person you love. In the final chapter of Amazon’s young adult series, it’s the end of Belly’s junior year of college, and she’s looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah. Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life. Krays: London’s Gangsters – 19th July

In the heart of London’s East End, twin brothers Reggie and Ronnie Kray built a criminal empire that made them legends of Britain’s underworld. This two-part documentary offers a new perspective on the lives of these infamous brothers, featuring never-before-heard audio tapes recorded by Reggie to Ronnie while both were imprisoned. Both parts arrive at once.

The Facebook Honeytrap: Catching A Killer – 27th July

This true crime special follows the cast of British expat Christine Robinson, who was brutally raped and murdered at her lodge in South Africa. The life of her doting niece was changed forever. Despite suffering from debilitating asthma, Lehanne realised it was up to her to hunt the killer down. Her health stopped her from travelling to South Africa, so instead, she turned to Facebook. She found the suspect online, created a fake profile, set a honeytrap, and began a romantic online relationship with her Auntie’s killer.

WAKE-UP and Anonymous – 28th July

These two powerful short films are written by young men while serving time at HMP Feltham Young Offenders Institute. WAKE – UP follows two 16-year-old friends whose carefree summer plans are derailed by circumstances that force them to make life-altering choices. Anonymous centres on a gifted young sprinter grappling with personal grief, torn between her athletic ambitions and loyalty to a local gang leader. The films were written alongside a four-week training programme at HMP YOI Feltham, led by actress and filmmaker Nathalie Pownall and sponsored by Prime Video, with the aim of bringing former prisoners professional production experience, mentorship and pathways into the Film industry.

A Killers Confession – 31st July

This true crime special follows Karen Edwards’ heartfelt and impassioned battle for justice through an often complicated and morally questionable justice system, as a serial killer, Christopher Halliwell, he tries to play the system to his advantage.
