What’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video UK in August 2021?

If July was all about summer blockbusters for Amazon Prime Video, August is about making the most of the Bank Holiday weekend, with a host of box sets for bingeing – including the return of Modern Love, the debut of Cruel Summer and the long-awaited arrival of Nine Perfect Strangers.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video UK in August 2021:
SOZ: Soldados o Zombies – 6th August
Standing for Soldados o Zombies, this eight-part thriller sees a new breed of zombie face off against one of the most wanted drug lords in Mexico. To avoid extradition, the charismatic and unpredictable drug lord Alonso Marroquín escapes prison in Mexico to hide in the middle of the desert. While on the other side of the border, a United States Army experiment with pigs in a military base, goes wrong and the Mexican police unit going after Marroquín gets infected, transforming into a new breed of zombies with special abilities. The army and this new species converge in Marroquín’s hideout, where the battle for survival begins. In short, it’s narcos vs zombies.
Cruel Summer: Season 1 – 8th August
The series, which premiered on Freeform in the US in April, hails from executive producers Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple (The Sinner), and follows the aftermath of a popular teen going missing, only for an outcast to seeming take over her life. Spanning three summers in the 1990s, it begins with Kate Wallis disappearing without a trace, only for the seemingly unrelated Jeanette Turner transform from a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town, eventually becoming the most despised person in America.
DC’s Stargirl: Season 2 – 11th August
Based on the DC Comics superhero Courtney Whitmore created by Johns and Lee Moder, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger, School of Rock) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to take up the legacy of a long-lost superhero team – The Justice Society of America – and stop the villains of the past. Luke Wilson co-stars.
Shershaah – 12th August
This Amazon original war drama is inspired by the life of Kargil war hero, Captain Vikram Batra. Directed by Vishnu Varadhan, the film stars Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in lead roles and Shiv Panditt, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himmanshu Ashok Malhotra, Nikitin Dheer, Ankita Goraya, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar and Pawan Chopra.
Boss Level – 13th August
Stuck in a time loop, doomed to repeat the same day over and over again while being hunted by dozens of deadly assassins, a man struggles to find a way out of his strange predicament in this sci-fi actioner from director Joe Carnahan, starring Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson and Naomi Watts.
EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME – 13th August
EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME is the fourth and final chapter of the new theatrical edition of Evangelion. The blockbuster franchise is based on the story of Evangelion, an artificial human and multipurpose humanoid weapon, and the Angels, an unknown life-form which takes place after the Earth has been shattered by a cataclysmic event. The anime film – which is the highest-grossing movie in Japanese cinemas this year – is from directors Kazuya Tsurumaki, Katsuichi Nakayama and Mahiro Maeda as well as legendary creator, screenwriter and chief director Hideaki Anno (Shin Godzilla). To celebrate the finale of the franchise, Prime Video will also release the three previous movies, EVANGELION:1.11 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE., EVANGELION:2.22 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE., EVANGELION:3.33 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO.
Modern Love: Season 2 – 13th August
From Once and Sing Street veteran John Carney, this anthology series is inspired by the real life stories from the popular New York Times column of the same name, charting tales of love and relationships in all their complexities and beauty. Season 2 comprises eight half-hour episodes, with a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Tobias Menzies (The Crown), Sophie Okonedo (Ratched), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Tom Burke (Mank), Minnie Driver (Cinderella), Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound), Anna Paquin (Flack), Miranda Richardson (Stronger) and Lulu Wilson (The Glorias).
Nine Perfect Strangers: Season 1 – 20th August
Starring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy, this thriller from director Jonathan Levine and co-writers David E Kelley and John Henry Butterworth follows nine stressed city dwellers at a boutique health-and-wellness resort, trying to get on a path to a better way of living. However, these nine strangers have no idea what’s about to hit them…
Kevin Can F**k Himself – 27th August
AMC’s comedy follows the dark reality behind a Sitcom Wife, and her plan to take back control of her life. Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) stars, alongside Mary Hollis Inboden (The Real O’Neals) as Patty O’Connor, Allison’s tough, glass-half-empty neighbour, Eric Petersen (Kirstie) as the protagonist’s husband Kevin McRoberts, Alex Bonifer (Superstore) as Neil O’Connor, the football-loving, beer-swilling, dim-bulb best friend of Kevin, and Brian Howe (Chicago Fire) as Pete McRoberts, Kevin’s father with a regressive sense of humour.
The Vault – 27th August
Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor) and Famke Janssen (X-Men) star in this action-packed thriller following a high-risk heist to steal a lost treasure in a bank vault.
