Trailer: Alex Rider returns to IMDb TV for Season 2
20th October 2021
Alex Rider is returning to our screens this December but with a new home on IMDb TV.
Produced by Eleventh Hour Films, Alex Rider is a spy thriller based on the popular book franchise written by Anthony Horowitz, which has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. The series follows Alex, a London-based teenager who has unknowingly been trained since childhood for the dangerous world of espionage.
“After the success of Season 1, I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to reassemble our fantastic cast for this second, action-packed adventure…with the added bonus of Toby Stephens in a key role,” said Horowitz.
In Season 2, Alex is still reeling from the traumatic events at Point Blanc, and desperately wants to return to a normal life. But when his new friend Sabina’s father, journalist Ed Pleasance, is attacked by Yassen Gregorovich, the man who may have killed his uncle, Alex reluctantly finds himself drawn back into the world of international espionage. Cut loose from his one-time allies within shadowy MI6 division The Department, Alex discovers a link between Ed, a dangerous hacker known as Smoking Mirror, and tech billionaire Damian Cray. With the help of his guardian Jack and trusted friend Tom, Alex must unravel a sinister political plot with global repercussions, the answer to which may be locked within Cray’s latest product, the global phenomenon video game Feathered Serpent. This season is based on the fourth book in the franchise, Eagle Strike.
Otto Farrant will reprise his role as Alex Rider, alongside Stephen Dillane as Alan Blunt, Vicky McClure as Mrs. Jones, Brenock O’Connor as Tom Harris, Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́ as Jack Starbright, Marli Siu as Kyra, Toby Stephens as Damian Cray, Rakie Ayola as Jo Byrne and Charithra Chandran as Sabina Pleasance. Horowitz serves as an executive producer alongside Eleventh Hour’s Jill Green and Eve Gutierrez, and series writer Guy Burt.
Season 1 debuted in the UK on Amazon Prime Video, but was released in the USA on IMDb TV, Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming services. With IMDb TV launching in the UK last month, Alex Rider will now be released on British soil as an IMDb TV original as well, with IMDb TV available as part of the Prime Video app.

Toby Stephens joins Alex Rider Season 2
4th February 2021
Toby Stephens has joined the cast of Alex Rider for Season 2.
The teen spy thriller is based on Anthony Horowitz’s hit series of books, which previously inspired the 2006 film Stormbreaker. It stars Otto Farrant as Alex Rider, a London teen who has unknowingly been trained since childhood for the dangerous world of espionage.
Now, he’s getting a formidable opponent for his sophomore outing, with Stephens joining the cast as energetic tech billionaire Damian Cray who is poised to launch a new version of his best-selling computer game, Feathered Serpent. Stephens certainly has the CV for the role, having played a Bond villain in Die Another Day, and is no stranger to the small screen, impressing in everything from Netflix’s Lost in Space to STARZ’s pirate epic Black Sails.
He will be joined in Season 2 by Rakie Ayola and newcomer Charithra Chandran. Ayola appears as Jo Byrne, the tough new Deputy Director of the CIA who is brought to the UK ahead of a visit by the US President. Chandran plays smart and confident teen Sabina Pleasance whose journalist father is writing a book on Cray and becomes entangled with Alex while on holiday in Cornwall.
Stephens says: “I’m really thrilled to be part of Alex Rider Season 2 and working with Eleventh Hour Films again. My son loves the Alex Rider books so it’s lovely to be a part of something that he recognises and enjoys – and it’s been a while since I played a good nemesis, so I’m really look forward to being the bad guy and going toe to toe with Alex Rider.”
Eve Guiterrez, Exec Producer, Eleventh Hour Films, adds: “We are beyond thrilled to have Toby, Rakie and Charithra on board to bring to life these key characters for Season 2 of Alex Rider. We’ve been incredibly lucky that viewers have enthusiastically embraced the casting of Season 1 and can’t wait to evolve the dynamic further with a fresh mission and even higher stakes,”
Returning alongside Otto from Season 1 are Vicky McClure, Stephen Dillane, Brenock O’Connor and Ronke Adekoluejo.
Season 2 will be based on Eagle Strike, the fourth novel in the bestselling franchise, and will once again stream exclusively as an Amazon Original on Amazon Prime Video in the UK. As with Season 1, Horowitz will serve as an Executive Producer alongside Jill Green, Eve Gutierrez, and series writer Guy Burt.
Season 2 is currently in production.
