New trailer lands for Twice Upon a Time

“Sunglasses?” “They’re sonic!” “Indoors?” That’s the sound of two Doctors bickering with… themselves in the latest trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas special.
Twice Upon a Time was already exciting enough, thanks to the prospect of seeing Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord regenerate in Jodie Whittaker’s new TARDIS owner, and the new teaser gives us a first glimpse of the regeneration. The icing on the cake, though, is the fresh look at the interactions between David Bradley’s take on William Hartnell’s First Doctor and Capaldi’s 12th, as they clash in typically amusing style.
The special will sees both Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration, and crossing paths with enchanted glass people, and a World War One captain (Mark Gatiss).
The episode will air at 5.30pm on Christmas Day on BBC One. Here’s the new trailer:
Twice Upon a Time: Doctor Who Christmas special synopsis revealed
28th Novemeber 2017
As December looms, it’s only a matter of weeks until Christmas Day – which means only a matter of days until the Doctor Who Christmas special. Twice Upon a Time marks the magical final chapter of the 12th Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) journey, and it already promises not to be just any old journey: the Time Lord will up with his former self, the first ever Doctor (David Bradley), and a returning Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), for one last adventure.
Now, hot on the heels of a clip from the episode, which saw Bradley’s Doctor and Capaldi’s Doctor clashing as they step into the 12th Doctor’s TARDIS, the BBC has unveiled a new image and the official synopsis for the episode.
Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration. Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain (Mark Gatiss) destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story.
An uplifting new tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning…
The 60-minute special is written by Steven Moffat, directed by Rachel Talalay, and executive produced by Brian Minchin. It guest stars Nikki Amuka-Bird as the voice of the glass woman, and will see Peter Capaldi’s Doctor regenerate into the 13th Doctor (Jodie Whittaker).
The BBC will also be showing fans an early screening of the episode in December, as part of a nationwide tour of the Beeb’s Christmas line-up, starting in Hartlepool on 14th December and ending in Bradford on 22nd December. Across eight locations in northern England, fans will be able to watch the animated version of The Highway Rat, the first of three new League of Gentlemen anniversary episodes, and Twice Upon a Time – except for the final minutes that see Capaldi regenerate into Whittaker, which will premiere on Christmas Day as part of the episode. Fans will also be able to pose for photos on the BBC’s red carpet and with props from the programmes.
The tickets will be available through a ballot which will be open from Thursday 23 November for 10 days via the BBC Shows and Tours website here.
Twice Upon a Time: Doctor Who Christmas special clip revealed
19th November 2017
The BBC has given us a sneak peek of Twice Upon a Time, this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.
The special will bid farewell to Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, by looking all the way back to the very First Doctor, with David Bradley playing William Hartnell’s incarnation of the Time Lord. They will be joined by Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts and Mark Gatiss as the Captain.
This first look at the special, released during Friday’s Children in Need telethon, shows us the moment when Gatiss’ WWI veteran steps into the TARDIS for the first time, alongside the First Doctor, who is not expecting the Capaldi-era interior design.
“It’s bigger than the inside than it is on the outside,” gasps the Captain. “It’s hideous!” exclaims the Doctor.
“He gives it such twinkle, such grace. He just captures what the First Doctor was really like,” said showrunner Steven Moffat of Bradley, who first played Hartnell in An Adventure in Space and Time.
The special also marks the passing of the baton from Capaldi to Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor. You can see her new Time Lord’s costume here.

Doctor Who Christmas special trailer reveals title and surprise return of a familiar face
23rd July 2017
Warning: This contains spoilers for the Season 10 finale.
The Doctor Who Christmas special has officially got a title – and will also see a familiar face make a surprising return.
The revelation that the special will feature Peter Capaldi’s current Doctor team up with the First Doctor, played by David Bradley, came at the end of Season 10’s finale.
“He gives it such twinkle, such grace. He just captures what the First Doctor was really like,” said showrunner Steven Moffat of Bradley, who first played William Hartnell (and William Hartnell’s Doctor) in An Adventure in Space and Time.
That was already reason enough to look forward to the 12th Doctor’s final seasonal outing. Now, there’s one more: the Christmas episode will see the return of Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts.
Called Twice Upon a Time, that makes the Christmas outing a double reunion. The news was revealed at the Doctor Who Comic-Con panel this evening – although fans will have to wait until the big day to discover exactly how Bill, who will appear throughout the episode, makes her return.
It was also revealed that Mark Gatiss will co-star in the episode in a guest role, as a World War One soldier, known so far only as ‘The Captain’.
“It’s a Christmas episode without being overtly Christmassy,” Gatiss said at the panel. “It’s very happy-sad.”
All that and the episode will see Capaldi’s Doctor regenerate into the new Time Lord’s incarnation, as played by Jodie Whittaker? Christmas can’t come soon enough.
There’s still time, though, to look back, and a video recapping Peter Capaldi’s highlights from his time in the TARDIS was also shown, with Capaldi then treated to a standing ovation from the room full of fans.

As for his replacement, Capaldi said: “I think Jodie’s going to be amazing and she’s so full of excitement and full of passion… she’s a great choice.”
