The End of the F***ing World gets Netflix release date

“I’m James, I’m 17 and I’m pretty sure I’m a psychopath.” That’s James (Alex Lawther – Black Mirror, The Imitation Game), an awkward outsider and the central figure in The End of the F***ing World.
Yes, The End of the F***ing World is upon us again, as the Channel 4 co-production with the streaming giant is released online worldwide this weekend.
Based on an award-winning graphic novel, the eight-part series sees two angst-ridden teenagers – James and Alyssa (Jessica Barden – The Lobster, Ellen, Penny Dreadful) – run away from home and embark on a road trip, with the morbid twist that one teen is thinking of murdering the other.
“As coming-of-age stories go, The End of the F***ing World is quite unlike anything else,” we wrote in our spoiler-free review of the show, which is currently available on All 4, following its broadcast in the UK last year. “The stakes start out high, with the very real possibility that James will kill Alyssa, and they get even higher, as the pair end up running away from a lot more than just their families. Add into the mix some extremely dark humour… plus two strong young leads, and you get a show that’s compelling to watch and difficult to predict.”
The whole thing lands on Netflix worldwide on Friday 5th January. Here’s the new trailer:

The End of the F***ing World is officially happening this month, as Channel 4 launches its new dark comedy.
The eight-part series follows teen outsiders James (Alex Lawther – Black Mirror, The Imitation Game) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden – The Lobster, Ellen, Penny Dreadful) as they decide to escape from their families and embark on a road trip to find Alyssa’s estranged father. The first episode will premiere on Tuesday 24th October at 10.20pm on Channel 4, with all episodes then immediately be available exclusively on All 4. Here’s the trailer:
The End of the F***ing World will happen this month… on Channel 4

The End of the F***ing World will officially happen this month, as Channel 4 unleashes its new series.
The show, which is co-produced with Netflix, is written by Charlie Covell and based on the award-winning series of comic books by Charles Forsman. The eight-part road trip is a dark, intriguing, tense and chilling tale shot through with moments of absurdity and humour.
The End of the F***ing World invites viewers into the confused lives of teen outsiders James (Alex Lawther – Black Mirror, The Imitation Game) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden – The Lobster, Ellen, Penny Dreadful) as they decide to escape from their families and embark on a road trip to find Alyssa’s estranged father.
James, 17, is pretty sure he’s a psychopath – emotionally detached, cold and disdainful, he’s decided he’s ready to graduate from killing animals. He thinks it might be interesting to kill something bigger…a human. And he’s got the perfect person in mind…
Alyssa, also 17, is new in school – cool and moody, she’s existential angst made flesh. But despite being popular at school, she still feels like she doesn’t belong. Spotting James one day at school, however, she thinks she may have found a soulmate…

The series is directed by Jonathan Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak and produced by Kate Ogborn for Clerkenwell Films and Dominic Buchanan Productions. The Executive Producers are Murray Ferguson, Ed Macdonald, Andy Baker, Petra Fried, Jonathan Entwistle and Dominic Buchanan.
The series is the latest in a string of co-productions between the broadcaster and the streaming giant, including Kiss Me First and Crazy Face. It will be available on Netflix globally outside of the UK, but before then, Channel 4 will take a leaf from the streaming service’s book by releasing the whole series all-at-once. It’s a strategy employed frequently by Walter Presents, All 4’s on-demand channel dedicated to foreign-language TV. The End of the F***ing World will premiere on Channel 4, with the first episode airing this month, All episodes will then launch as a complete box set exclusively on All 4. So, while The End of the F***ing World will definitely happen this month, at least you can get it over with as soon as possible.
The End of the F***ing World is nigh for Netflix and E4
25th April 2017
Netflix and E4 are reuniting for The End of the F***ing World.
The series, which stars Jessica Barden (The Lobster, Ellen, Penny Dreadful) and Alex Lawther (Black Mirror, The Imitation Game), is a darkly comic road trip based on the award-winning comic books by Charles Forsman.
Adapted by Charlie Covell (Banana, Burn, Burn, Burn and Gap Year), The End of the F***king World invites viewers into the dark and confusing lives of teen outsiders James (Lawther) and Alyssa (Barden), as they embark on a road trip to find Alyssa’s father, who left home when she was a child.
James, 17, is pretty sure he’s a psychopath – emotionally detached, cold and disdainful, he’s decided he’s ready to graduate from killing animals. He thinks it might be interesting to kill something bigger… a human.
Alyssa, also 17, is new in school – cool and moody, she’s described by E4 as “existential angst made flesh”. But despite being popular at school, she still feels like she doesn’t belong – until she spots James one day at school.
And so, when things come to a head at home between Alyssa, her mother and stepdad, she leaves and persuades James to join her in search of her real father, beginning an ominous journey of discovery, young love… and sociopathic and violent inclinations. One night, however, the pair find themselves caught up in events that lead them down an ever more menacing and surreal path.
The eight-episode series is produced by Clerkenwell Films (Misfits, Lovesick, Not Safe For Work) and Dominic Buchanan Productions. The show was commissioned by Beth Willis, Head of Drama for Channel 4, and Roberto Troni, commissioning editor, and for Netflix by Elizabeth Bradley and Alex Sapot. Jonathan Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak will direct, with Kate Ogborn (The Unloved, Red Riding) on producing duties. Executive producers for Clerkenwell Films are Petra Fried, Ed Macdonald and Andy Baker, and executive producer for Dominic Buchanan Productions is Dominic Buchanan (Gimme The Loot, Lilting). Jonathan Entwistle also serves as executive producer.
“From the instant we were introduced to the utterly original Charles Forsman graphic novel we knew it was something special,” says Troni. “Reimagined by the multi-talented Charlie Covell, Jon Entwistle and the guys at Clerkenwell for this side of the Atlantic, it’s by turns funny, brutally violent, ultimately quite uplifting in a screwed up way. If David Lynch made a rom-com road movie about a pair of teen misfits in British suburbia it might look something like The End of the F**cking World. What could be more E4?”
The series will air on E4 later this year and be available on Netflix globally, following in the footsteps of similar co-productions between Channel 4 and Netflix, including Kiss Me First and Crazy Face.
Murray Ferguson, Chief Executive of Clerkenwell Films, comments: “It’s great to be partnering once more with both Channel 4/E4 and with Netflix on this new and ambitious project. This is a series full of originality and flair. We can’t wait to get started.”
“I can’t believe it’s really happening!” adds Covell. “From the minute I got sent Chuck Forsman’s comics to read, I wanted in. They’re beautiful, and they tell a dark, unconventional coming-of-age love story. It has been a massive privilege to bring Chuck’s characters to screen.”
Filming on the project begins today.
