What’s leaving Netflix UK in January / February 2023?
David Farnor | On 22, Jan 2023
Before you start bingeing through Netflix’s new originals, don’t miss out on catching up with some other gems before their rights expire and they head to another service, or just disappear into the digital ether.
This is your last chance to stream the following on Netflix UK:
Amélie – 31st January
When Amélie finds a long-hidden trove of toys behind a baseboard in her apartment, she’s inspired to return the items to their original owner. This is the one French film that everyone’s seen, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth seeing a second time.
Collateral (2004) – 31st January
Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx go head-to-head in Michael Mann’s blisteringly intense two-hander.
Event Horizon – 31st January
Paul W.S. Anderson’s sci-fi horror is far better than its reputation suggests.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – 31st January
Matthew Broderick is on iconic form in this comedy about a high-school slacker who skips school for a day in Chicago.
School of Rock – 31st January
Jack Black is on winning form in Mike White’s comedy about a failed musician who tricks his way into becoming a supply teacher educating children.
Imperial Dreams – 2nd February
John Boyega is magnificent in this drama that manages to be both gritty and uplifting.
Pirates (2021) – 8th February
Reggie Yates makes his directorial debut with this comedy about three trips on a road trip across London to find the best party on New Year’s Eve, 1999.
Split (2016) – 15th February
M Night Shyamalan is back at his best with this surprising thriller featuring a stellar turn from James McAvoy.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? – 15th February
No matter what, the Coen brothers can always be relied upon to make movies for themselves rather than anyone else. This take on Homer’s Odyssey – which sees three convicts (led by George Clooney) break out of a Depression-era Mississippi jail, only to form a barbershop triplet – is the perfect example. But it also proves that the Coen brothers’ movies never fail to entertain the rest of us too.
About Time – 15th February
Richard Curtis’ deceptively serious comedy is an honest, moving piece about family.
Darkest Hour – 15th February
Gary Oldman is unrecognisable in this compelling, cinematic biopic of Winston Churchill.
