There’s mo-cap Charles Dickens, there’s Muppet Charles Dickens, there’s a whole range of Charles Dickens. It’s all the same until you get Bill Murray Charles Dickens.

Richard Donner’s tale of television executive Frank Cross (Murray) takes Ebenezer Scrooge and turns him into the kind of man who sacks employees at Christmas and turns the traditional Christmas Carol story and sexes it up for the small-screen masses.

It’s only when a visitation from three ghosts and his long deceased ex-boss that make Cross see the error of his ways and become a better person. It’s a well-worked story that becomes all the better with a modernised twist and the addition of Bill Murray doing some of his finest work. Bobcat Goldthwait and Karen Allen round out a strong cast making this a fine addition to the Christmas classics roster.
