What’s leaving Sky and NOW TV in July / August 2018?
David Farnor | On 26, Jul 2018
With the World Cup and Wimbledon in the rear view mirror, the summer of sport may be over, but the arrival of August spells the start of another, equally important contest: the race to watching all the TV shows and movies before they disappear off your favourite subscription streaming service.
Sky’s box set collection is bidding farewell to Legion Season 2, The Gifted Season 1 and True Detective: Season 2. Catching up with Atlanta? You’ve only got a matter of weeks to see Season 1 before it departs too.
Sky Cinema, meanwhile, is waving goodbye to a diverse array of movies, from Keanu and Queen of Earth to Iron Man 3, Bridesmaids and Kubo and the Two Strings.
Whichever you subscribe to, this coming month is your last chance to stream the following:
TV
Legion: Season 2 – 26th July
Noah Hawley’s X-Men series returns for a mind-bending second season, as we continue to follow David Haller (Dan Stevens), a haunted man with power beyond comprehension. His power does not come free, but at the steep cost of David’s mind. Plagued by numerous split personalities – each commanding a different aspect of his power – David is trying to find his way back to sanity. He was getting tired and about to give up, until he met the girl of his dreams (Rachel Keller) in Season 1…
The Gifted: Season 1 – 26th July
A new series set in the X-Men universe, The Gifted tells the emotional story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their teenage children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family seeks help from an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
Nathan For You – 29th July
One of the best TV shows you haven’t heard of, this US docu-reality comedy sees comedian Nathan Fielder use his business degree and life experiences to help actual small businesses turn a profit. A sharp-edged satire of commercialism, stuffed with amusingly over-the-top marketing ideas.
Bright Lights – 30th July
This intimate, eye-opening documentary about Debbie Reynolds and her daughter, Carrie Fisher, is a bittersweet tribute to a bittersweet bond between stars that shined brightly until the end.
Inside Amy Schumer: Season 1 to 4 – 31st July
If you’ve never seen Amy Schumer at work, don’t miss your chance to see this comic at the top of her game.
True Detective: Season 2 – 3rd August
Underwhelming or underrated? However you felt about the second season of Nic Pizzolato’s crime anthology, starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams, this is your chance to go back and reassess.
Scrubs: Season 1 to 9 – 11th August
Check into the surreal world of Sacred Heart Hospital, where the staff and patients are hilarious and bizarre in equal measure This award-winning comedy follows the outlandish, and often touching, journey of medical intern Zach Braff and his fellow doctors, played by Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and John C McGinley, who attempt to prove that laughter is the best medicine alongside a host of notable guest stars, including Michael J Fox, Tara Reid, Mandy Moore, Courteney Cox, Colin Farrell, Jason Bateman and many more.
Atlanta: Season 1 – 12th August
Donald Glover’s series stars the Community veteran as Earnest Marks, who drops out of Princeton and returns to his hometown of Atlanta. There, he discovers that his cousin, Alfred, has become the city’s hottest new rap act. The show follows the two cousins as they work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. Season 2 episodes are also being removed every week, following their broadcast.
