Netflix is a blessing and a curse. A giver and a taker. A lover and a fighter. Ok, maybe not that last one. But the great streaming gods do remove films and TV shows from our lives as often they introduce them. (Why? Because deals for streaming rights expire at some point and sometimes, VOD services don’t think they’re worth renewing.)

So while you’re distracted by the arrival of Jessica Jones, be warned that the following titles are about to sneak out the back door. We’ve picked the best of the bunch, but there’s a full list below.

The Numbers Station – Friday 27th November

Liam Cunningham. John Cusack. Malin Akerman. This action adventure, about a black ops agent and a code operator in a remote CIA broadcast station, has a cast that’s worth tuning in for.

What Maisie Knew – Monday 30th November

Based on Henry James’ classic novel, Scott McGehee and David Siegel’s drama is a heartbreakingly honest tale of one girl growing up amid her parents’ divorce, featuring a stellar trio of performances from Julianne Moore, Steve Coogan and the young Onata Aprile.

Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens – Tuesday 1st December

Brace the Ben 10 fans in your family: all of the adventures currently on Netflix about the young boy with a magic watch that lets him transform into different aliens are about to leave the streaming service.

Regular Show – Wednesday 9th December

Why should kids have all the animated fun? Cartoon Network’s surreal animation follows Mordecai (a blue jay) and Rigby (a raccoon), who spend their days trying to avoid doing work as groundskeepers in a park.

Courage the Cowardly Dog – Wednesday 9th December

In the middle of Nowhere there lives a dog – called Courage – who defends owners Muriel and Eustace from monsters and other creepy monsters. Except for, you know, the fact that he’s a coward.

Lazy Town – Wednesday 9th December

There’s a lot to be said for any educational kids’ TV programme designed to encourage exercise – especially when it’s as colourful and musical as this. Part CGI and part live action, the character’s giant chins and pun-filled names (hello, Sportacus) will intrigue adults but if you’ve ever had a child or relative under the age of 7 in the last few years, they’ll already know Lazy Town – testament to how well it achieves its aims.

Adventure Time – Tuesday 15th December

Finn, possibly the last human alive, and Jake, a shape shifting dog, live together in a tree-house in the land of Ooh, made up of multiple fantasy kingdoms. The set-up allows for total, unrestrained creativity: part of the joy of watching Adventure Time is just seeing what creator Pendleton Ward will come up with next.

The Frozen Ground – 16th December

Based on a true story, Scott Walker’s thriller follows a police officer’s (Nic Cage) attempts to convict serial killer Robert Hanson (John Cusack) in 1983 following the escape of almost-victim Cindy (Vanessa Hudgens). The problem is that in staying so slavish to the facts, the movie already has a set ending – and the script can’t cut corners to get there any faster.

Upstream Colour – 16th December

Shane Carruth blew brains when he popped up out of nowhere with time travel flick Primer in 2004. He looks to do the same with Upstream Colour, a tender, low-fi sci-fi that squirms with ideas before exploding into full-on Tree of Life rhapsody. Is that the sign of a masterpiece? Or just an unnecessary third act that’s complex for complexity’s sake? Watch it while you can and form your own opinion.
