Flight – 23rd September

Denzel Washington soars in this worthy drama about an alcoholic pilot struggling to deal with the aftermath of a plane crash.

Lion – 27th September

Dev Patel is sensational in this powerfully moving drama about a five-year-old Indian boy, who gets lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometers from home. 25 years later, after being adopted by a family in Australia, he sets out to find his lost family.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark – 30th September

Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce star as the parents of a young girl who finds the family’s new mansion is also home to critters in the basement that only come out when the lights are off. Guillermo Del Toro’s co-written script keeps the kids’ perspective creepily convincing, while Troy Nixey’s direction plays on moving shadows with genuinely spooky tension.

The Girl on the Train – 6th October

Emily Blunt is excellent in this uneven adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ gripping novel.
