David Farnor | On 13, Dec 2019
Christmas is upon us, but before you start worrying about what you want from Santa Claus, don’t forget to unwrap some of the best treats on your favourite streaming service before their rights expire and they depart.
This is your last chance to stream the following:

Armando Iannucci’s hilariously bleak satire of the disarray of tyrannical rule is a chilling, scathingly relevant spectacle.
Contagion – 18th December
Steven Soderbergh’s film about a plague spreading across the planet is not only scarily believable but grippingly tense.
Speed Racer – 18th December
The Wachowskis’ action comedy based on the anime and manga is a visually jaw-dropping, retina-dazzling spectacle.
Letters from Iwo Jima – 18th December
Description
Clint Eastwood balances out – and betters – Flags of Our Fathers – with the story of the battle of Iwo Jima between the United States and Imperial Japan, as told from the perspective of the Japanese.

Heath Ledger on a horse. Rufus Sewell as a bad guy. Paul Bettany as a naked Geoffrey Chaucer. A Knight’s Tale has everything. Also, jousting!
Wonder Woman – 6th January

The Road – 8th January
The post-apocalyptic world is a grey place. Drowned in decaying ash, it sits in ruins, foraged by the few who survived. Among them are a father (Viggo Mortensen) and his boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Despite its weighty content, the result is a precise and poignant piece of film-making. One that demands to be seen, even if you won’t enjoy it.
Rango – 9th January
Surreal, serious and surprisingly subversive, some of Rango’s subtleties may go over younger viewers’ heads, but Gore Verbinski’s gorgeous animation and Hans Zimmer’s hilariously silly score makes for a bizarre, post-modern Western that is packed full of ideas and laughs.
