Will Smith is ticking off his Bucket List for Facebook in a new series.
The Fresh Prince, Independence Day and Hitch star is as well-known online as he is in the cinema, with over 76 million followers on Facebook, 28 million on Instagram and 4.7 million subscribers on YouTube. The latter is where he jumped into social media last year, when he carried out a bungee jump over the Grand Canyon on his 50th birthday to raise money for Global Citizen’s education campaigns. The even was a hit, cementing his star power in a digital age.
Now, he’s leaping from YouTube to Facebook Watch, building on that stunt’s success to carry out a string of similarly unusual and extreme challenges. Called Will Smith’s Bucket List, the series sees the comedian tick off items from his wish list, travelling the globe for six different episodes.
They will include skydiving in Dubai with Jada Pinkett Smith, racing an F1 car in Abu Dhabi, swimming with sharks, performing stand-up with Dave Chapelle, running a half-marathon in Cuba and taking part in a Bollywood film.
“For the last few months, I’ve been shootin’ a show called THE BUCKET LIST,” he announced on Facebook. “I turned 50 and I decided I was gonna do EVERYTHING I’ve ever wanted to do – Swim with Sharks, do Stand-Up and make Jada Pinkett Smith jump out of an Airplane (Which is what happens in the first episode).”
The show premiered this week on Facebook Watch, with new episodes arriving every Wednesday 5pm UK time.
The show is produced by Smith’s Westbrook Entertainment, which is also behind Facebook Watch original Red Table Talk, featuring Pinkett Smith. It joins a number of high-profile star originals arriving this year, following Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Queen America and the commissioning of a new adult animation, Human Discoveries, starring Anna Kendrick and Zac Efron.
