FOX has released the opening minute of the all new The X-Files series online.
The X-Files began all the way back in 1993, spanning nine seasons and bagging a whole host of awards, including five Golden Globes and 16 Emmys. Now, FOX is reviving the show for a limited event series, which will span six new episodes.
They will, of course, see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunite as FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who investigate unexplained cases that have paranormal answers. While the show’s mythology will continue in the new series, with William B Davis also returning as the infamous “Cigarette Smoking Man” and creator Chris Carter on writing and directing duties alongside a team of other show veterans, some will also feature standalone stories. (Guest stars for the new run include Joel McHale (Community), Robbie Amell (The Flash), Annabeth Gish (The Bridge) and Flight of the Conchords’ Rhys Darby.)
Either way, FOX is clearly keen to make sure everyone is on the same page, and so the opening minute provides essentially a recap of everything you need to know about The X-Files – including, naturally the show’s US premiere date of Sunday 24th January and Monday 25th January.
In the UK, The X-Files will air on Channel 5 in early February, which means a slight wait to see the programme, but also that everyone can watch it for free without a paid subscription. The release of the first minute on Doyoustillbelieve.com follows the release of a new trailer by Channel 5 – and the arrival of all nine seasons of The X-Files on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s the opening 60 seconds, or you can read on for the full trailer.
