The new trailer for Doctor Who’s return has landed – and things are shaping up to be very promising.
The sci-fi series will be back on our screens from Saturday 15th April, marking the final time in the TARDIS for showrunner Steven Moffat and star Peter Capaldi. There’s still for new faces, though, with Pearl Mackie joining the cast as his new companion, Bill, and with her fresh-faced excitement running through the latest trailer, things are feeling very upbeat indeed.
“It looks like…” says Bill, as she enters the Time Lord’s blue police box for the first time. “A spaceship?” he replies. “A kitchen,” she gasps. Between the jokes and the fast-paced montage of new worlds and familiar villains, Moffat’s final run may be his most Russell T. Davies-esque yet.

New trailer for Doctor Who Season 10 teases April premiere
26th February 2017
A new trailer has landed for Doctor Who’s Season 10, just in case you needed a reminder that it’s only a few weeks now, until Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord returns.
The upcoming season, which was revealed to be Capaldi’s final run in the TARDIS last month, sees the Doctor joined, of course, by a brand new companion: Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie.
“The first time you meet him, he’s funny,” she says in the video. “The second time, he’s amazing. The third time, you realise he’s the most dangerous man in the universe.”
The new season is written by showrunner Steven Moffat, who will also be stepping down come the end of the run and replaced by new head writer Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch). Will Bill stay on to jet about the universe with the new Doctor? She’s having the time of her life, she points in out the trailer, which has a positive, exciting vibe, more reminiscent of Russell T. Davies’ high-octane adventures than Moffat’s more serious recent outings. Although what she says next makes you wonder whether she’ll be around for long.
Season 10 will premiere on BBC One on Saturday 15th April.
The new video follows the previous trailer for Season 10, which was unveiled alongside the Christmas 2016 special:
Watch – Pearl Mackie unveiled as new Doctor Who companion
24th April 2016
Pearl Mackie was unveiled as the new Doctor Who companion last night. A trailer broadcast on BBC One during the half-time of the FA Cup semi-final wasted no time in introducing the Doctor’s new sidekick, as they both found themselves running from a Dalek – only for the Doctor’s warnings to be constantly interrupted by Bill’s questions and jokes. Oh, that’s her name, by the way. Bill. We like it.
Cast in her first major TV role, Pearl says: “Reading the script at the audition I thought Bill was wicked. Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in – I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series. I always loved stage combat at drama school so I can’t wait to get on set and kick some evil monsters into the next dimension!”
Peter Capaldi comments: “It is a genuine delight to welcome Pearl Mackie to Doctor Who. A fine, fine actress with a wonderful zest and charm, she’s a refreshing addition to the TARDIS and will bring a universe of exciting new possibilities to The Doctor’s adventures.”
“Peter Capaldi is such a brilliant actor, and his Doctor is such a wacky and wonderful character, I can’t wait to see what adventures are in store for him and Bill throughout time and space,” she adds. “Shooting the trailer was absolutely mental, there were pyro technics and smoke and I met my first Dalek! I’m not sure it will ever become ‘the norm’ seeing crazy monsters on set, but I cannot wait to meet some more! The weirder the better, bring it on!”
Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, adds: “A new face in the TARDIS, a new voyage about to begin: welcome aboard the amazing Pearl Mackie! This is where the story really starts.”
Doctor Who will return later this year with a Christmas Special, ahead a new season next year, which will be Moffat’s last before Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall takes over.
