Martin Freeman will be fending off zombies for Netflix this spring with new horror movie Cargo.
The film, which was snapped up by Netflix last year, is the first Australian movie to be incorporated under the Netflix Original banner. It is produced by The Babadook’s Kristina Ceyton and Samantha Jennings, who hail from Australia’s Causeway Films, alongside Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder of Addictive Pictures and Mark Patterson. It marks the feature debut of Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling, who write and direct the movie based on their own short film, which went viral online.
Netflix reportedly bought the film’s rights after seeing a three-minute promo for the project, with Martin Freeman then attached for the lead role. He stars an infected father in rural Australia, stranded in the aftermath of a violent pandemic. There, he desperately seeks a new home for his infant child, and a means to protect her from his own changing nature. Freeman stars alongside Anthony Hayes, Susie Porter, Natasha Wanganeen and David Gulpilil.
The film is released by Netflix worldwide on Friday 18th May. Here’s a new clip from the movie:
