This summer, Walter Presents is heading back to Brazil for serial killer thriller Merciless.
The Fall meets Dexter set in Rio de Janeiro, the series )(called Dupla Identidade in its home country) introduces us to South America’s most seductive murderer in a gritty, dark and disturbing urban crime drama sheathed in super-glossy, sultry elegance.
The series stars Bruno Gagliasso as Edu Borges, a handsome, charming and successful political advisor in Rio. To his friends, colleagues and girlfriend, he is polite, sensitive and intelligent. Beneath that surface, though, lies a ruthless, cold killer. When expert FBI detective Vera Muller is drafted in to investigate a spate of brutal murders, Edu infiltrates the police to play a cat and mouse game with his hunters.
A Brazilian mega-star actor, model and producer, Gagliasso won the coveted Best Actor Award at the 2015 Brazilian Oscars for his role. No stranger to the pages of Brazilian Vogue and GQ, he and his wife Giovanna Ewbank are known as the ‘Brangelina of Brazil’.
“Bruno has a history of playing Brazilian Bastards and as you will see in this series, he does so with chilling aplomb,” says Walter Presents.
The show follows the premiere of steamy Brazilian series Magnifica 70 on the online channel, which is dedicated to foreign-language drama. While that was released as a box set last year on the All 4 streaming service, Merciless will debut on Channel 4, before heading to Walter’s online home – making it the first Brazilian drama to screen on national terrestrial TV.
Merciless premieres on Channel 4 on Sunday 18th June at 10.15pm, with the full box set released on All 4’s Walter Presents immediately after its broadcast. For more on what’s coming soon to Walter Presents, see our TV guide.
