“Don’t waste your time looking back; you’re not going that way.” so says Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) in the trailer for Season 4 of Vikings, which VODzilla.co can confirm premieres on Amazon Prime Video in the UK this February.
History Channel’s original show returns for fourth run hot on the heels of Season 3, which climaxed with a battle for Paris. With Ragnar returning to Kattegat ill, thoughts of his possible death galvanise the forces who seek to succeed him as king, according to Collider’s official synopsis, including his wife Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and his oldest son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig).
Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) continues power struggles with her calculating, former second in command, Kalf (Ben Robson), while Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) faces retribution for his actions.
It’s not just old faces raiding our TV screens, though, with Dianne Doan also joining the cast as Yidu, a slave who “fascinates Ragnar,” reports Pop Sugar, “because she is from a different culture.” They released the above image of Yidu this week.
But family remains the driving force of the show’s conflict and, with Rollo (Clive Standen) betraying his brethren by remaining in France, the stage is set for another clash between Ragnar and his brother – and, after Season 2, we know how brutal that battle will be. “Power is built with blood,” promises the trailer, which places an emphasis on the sheer amount of action Season 4 has in store.
There is so much action, in fact, that the show has been given four extra episodes for its fourth run, with its initial 16-episode order expanded to 20 episodes. These will be broadcast in two halves, with the second batch of 10 to air at an unconfirmed date later in 2016.
Part 1 of Vikings Season 4 will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 19th February, with new episodes arriving every Friday, with 24 hours of their US TV broadcast. Here is the trailer – or you can catch up with our reviews of Vikings Season 3 here. Not seen any of Vikings?
Seasons 1 to 3 are still available on Amazon Prime Video for binge-viewing. A subscription costs £5.99 a month.
