All we want for Christmas this year is for Netflix’s new festive film to live up to its title: The Knight Before Christmas.
The romantic comedy sees a sorceress transport medieval knight Sir Cole (Josh Whitehouse) to present-day Ohio during the holiday season. There, he befriends Brooke (Vanessa Hudgens), a clever and kind science teacher who’s been disillusioned by love. Brooke helps Sir Cole navigate the modern world as he tries to discover how to fulfill his mysterious one true quest — the only act that will return him home.
But as Sir Cole and Brooke grow closer, so do their feelings for each other. Can their love overcome all the odds?
Find out the answer – and whether the film can possibly live up to its title – when The Knight Before Christmas premieres on 21st November. Here’s the trailer:
The Knight Before Christmas is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
First look: Netflix’s The Knight Before Christmas
16th October 2019
Every now and then, a movie comes along that was clearly conceived with its title first. So when we reported earlier this year that a festive film called The Knight Before Christmas was in the works at Netflix, we weren’t kidding: the movie now not only has a cast but also a poster and a release date.
Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Whitehouse star in the brilliantly titled holiday rom-com. She plays a kind science teacher who has been disillusioned by love and he’s the cursed medieval knight she must help, as you do.
The knight is magically transported by a sorceress to the present day – can he find his way back to his own time? Or will he by any chance decide that maybe he’d found his real home with her all along? Find out for sure when The Knight Before Christmas – that’s The Knight Before Christmas, folks – premieres on 21st November.
Here’s the first poster and still from the movie, which, judging by A Christmas Prince and The Christmas Chronicles, has every chance of being knowingly great. Possibly.
Vanessa Hudgens to star in Netflix’s The Knight Before Christmas
26th March 2019
Vanessa Hudgens will star in The Knight Before Christmas, Netflix’s new festive flick.
The streaming giant has been stepping up its seasonal game to Hallmark levels in recent years, commissioning and releasing a whole heap of Christmas movies, from A Very Murray Christmas and The Holiday Calendar to The Christmas Chronicles, El Camino Christmas, A Christmas Prince and event A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding. Now, Netflix has come up with a new pun-heavy soon-to-be-family-favourite.
The Knight Before Christmas follows a medieval English knight who is magically transported by a sorceress to the present day where he ends up falling for a high school teacher. Josh Whitehouse (Valley Girl, Game of Thrones’ prequel) will play the knight, and High School Musical legend Vanessa Hudgens will play the science teacher, who is disillusioned by love.
Hudgens is no stranger to Netflix, nor, indeed, to Netflix’s Christmas movies: she recently starred in The Princess Switch.
“Vanessa Hudgens (when it is her on screen) powers through the whole thing on sheer charm alone, and she has charm to spare,” we wrote in our review of the seasonal rom-com. “She’s visibly having far too much fun as the velvety-voiced Duchess of Montenaro (complete with overly thick British accent), and even more so when she’s pretending to be a rich person mimicking Stacy’s hip Chicago swagger… The result is an unexpectedly well balanced mix of stupid and adorably stupid.”
Hudgens will exec-produce the movie as well as star in it, with fellow EPS including Brad Krevoy, Amanda Phillips Atkins, Eric Jarboe, Jimmy Townsend, and Lorenzo Nardini. Mark Amato is also on board as a consulting producer, with David Anselmo producing. The film is written by Cara Russell (Groomzilla, My Christmas Grandpa) and at the helm is Monika Mitchell (The Christmas Contract, Christmas Joy).
