UKTV Play is now available on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.
The on-demand service for the UKTV Network allows viewers to catch up with programmes from its free-to-air channels, Dave, Yesterday, Really and Drama.
The free service was first launched in the summer of 2014 and has quickly rolled out across multiple platforms, including YouView, Virgin TV and BT TV, as well as iOS and Android devices.
UKTV is enjoying a strong period of growth – the network is home to the number one non-PSB channel in Dave – and that has been reflected in the take-up of UKTV Play. New content added to the service in August 2015, including the UK premiere of hit US show Last Man on Earth, Season 5 of Suits and brand new comedy panel show Taskmaster, drove a 92 per cent increase in Dave VOD views on PC, mobile devices and Youview, resulting in its most successful month ever.
“As UKTV Play passes its first birthday, this launch marks another exciting step in the growth of the service,” says UKTV’s CEO Darren Childs. “UKTV continues to invest in its on demand services and in making brilliant, original programming.”
Indeed, UKTV recently announced its plans to debut returning original commissions, such as Dave Gorman’s Modern Life is Goodish, on VOD before linear broadcast, emphasising the importance of UKTV Play within the network’s future strategy.
As well as browsing by channel and searching, the service compiles content from across UKTV’s brands into collections, including favourite picks from celebrities and staff. The UKTV Play app on Amazon Fire TV devices also includes a new feature which enables users to create their own collections via My List – a function that will be rolled out onto other devices in the coming months.
