Twilight TV series in the works

Twilight could be coming back to our screens in the not-too-distant future, with a TV series in the works.
Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series explores the complicated romance between a young human woman and a vampire. Adapted for the screen in 2008, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, they spawned a film franchise that spanned five instalments – splitting the fourth and final book into two parts – and made more than $3.4 billion worldwide.
In the competitive streaming landscape where everyone wants their own exclusive, original audience magnet, and viewers often turn to familiar things when facing an overwhelming number of options, franchise IP is more valuable to media players than ever – this month, (HBO) Max announced that it’s turning to Harry Potter for a series, while Amazon has notably invested a hefty chunk of change in a The Lord of the Rings series.
Now, Lionsgate is look to build on Twilight’s success, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Sinead Daly (The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves) is working with Lionsgate TV on a small screen adaptation. Still in early development, it’s not yet known whether that will end up being a spin-off or a more straightforward serialised remake. There is no timeline or further details about which platform or network might end up being its home, although Lionsgate does have its own Lionsgate+ streaming platform – formerly known as STARZPLAY – and has leaned heavily on its Power franchise to build an exclusive screen universe of multiple TV shows. It has also recently revived Party Down, and is exploring plans to revive Spartacus with a sequel series.
There has been no official comment from Lionsgate, but THR reports that Meyer is expected to be involved in the Twilight series.
