Netflix is getting back in the Trolling business, with a sequel to hit film Troll in the works.
Deep inside the mountain of Dovre, something gigantic awakens after being trapped for a thousand years. Destroying everything in its path, the creature is fast approaching the capital of Norway. But how do you stop something you thought only existed in Norwegian folklore?
That was the starting point for the 2022 film, which was directed by Roar Uthaug, the hlmer of The Wave and Tomb Raider. Written by Espen Aukan, and starring Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, Mads Pettersen and Gard B Eidsvold, the film went on to become a big success for the streamer, with more than 103 million views in first 90 days on the platform – making it at the time Netflix’s most-watched non-English-language film ever.
Now a second film is on the way, once again directed by Uthaug and produced by Oslo-based Motion Blur. Producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud said to Variety that the follow-up will “again spinning on a Norwegian fairy tale figure, played, directed and produced by Norwegians”.
Production will begin in 2024.
