Robert Downey Jr, Robert Downey Jr and Robert Downey Jr will star in Park Chan-wook’s The Sympathizer – and a new trailer gives us a closer look at the series.

The seven-part series is based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The espionage thriller is a cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren’t over.

Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar co-showrun and executive produce. Park Chan-wook will direct the first three episodes, with Fernando Meirelles helming Episode 4 and Marc Munden helming Episodes 5 to 7.

In front of the camera will be Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Phanxine, Vy Le, Ky Duyen, Kieu Chinh, Duy Nguyen, Alan Trong and Sandra Oh. Robert Downey Jr, who also exec-produces the project, will play multiple roles.  You can see all them in action in May, when the show premieres on Sky Atlantic and NOW – and get a glimpse of them below.
