“Driving around with a bong on the back seat of your car? Who do you think you are? Willie Nelson? Even he got arrested.” That’s the sound of Netflix’s new coming-of-age comedy arriving in a haze of smoke.
DUDE follows four best girlfriends who negotiate loss and major life changes during the last two weeks of high school. Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars, Truth or Dare, Scream 4), Alex Wolff (My Friend Dahmer), Alexandra Shipp (Love, Simon), Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8), and Kathryn Prescott (24: Legacy, To the Bone) star as the quartet, who bond over relationships, drugs, and living their best lives, as the ride the lows of school and the highs of weed.
The film marks the directorial debut of Olivia Milch, who has just co-written the script for Ocean’s 8, alongside The Hunger Games’ Gary Ross. DUDE is based on her own script about four best friends, which made the Black List in 2013. It’s produced by Heather Rae, Langley Perer, Jimmy Miller, Andrew Duncan, and Jen Isaacson. It follows a growing push by Netflix into the high school genre, as the streaming giant renews both On My Block and Alexa & Katie for second seasons.
DUDE premieres on Netflix on Friday 20th April. Here’s the trailer – or, for more on what’s coming soon to Netflix UK in April 2018, click here.
DUDE is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
